Not just that though, add on the cost for a 300 mile round trip and your £24 soon becomes a little bit more than that, all for the pleasure of sitting out under the elements...surrounded largely by people who moan constantly and complain if you shout encouragement at the players or start trying to get others to join in with a little bit of singing...I would rather boil my head!

Somewhat ironically, I would probably make the journey a few times a season if we were still at the Goldstone and I could cheer the team on from under cover of the North Stand roof!

i really miss the goldstone! used to stand in the chicken run. bet some kids on here dont even remember it!

the vast majority of the people going are season ticket holders.

This kind of accusation annoys me. I for one was a season ticket holder at the Goldstone and travelled to most games at Priestfield. I then moved away to the Midlands, spermed a family and now run my own business against a tight budget. Not for once have I been tempted to take the easy option by turning to Forest, Derby, Leicester or other teams on my doorstep with larger crowds, stadiums, budgets, players etc. So stop talking about all these glory hunters and think about who these extra couple of thousand really are. They’re supporters just like you but probably for one reason or another just can’t be as dedicated as they once were.

Good point, well made.
BHA have always enjoyed a large catchment area and as sizeable as the Brighton and Hove conurbation is, I doubt whether more than 20% of Withdean regulars come from within the city boundaries.
I, myself, travel some 65-70 miles to each home game and know many Withdean regulars who travel from further afield. Circumstances dictate that people move away from the clubs they support but they never stop supporting that team.
Fans who were teenagers in the glory years ( 75-85 ) are in their 40's and 50's now with families and business responsibilities. But they are still out there, spread all over the country and still following the results. Once in a while, their minds drift back to those glorious times at the Goldstone, when the ground sizzled and crackled with 25-30,000 inside. When we played top teams regularly and revelled in class players wearing the ' mighty stripes '
So, when we occasionally get a big game, fans want to taste it again and remember what it was like, in their formative years, when games like Villa were commonplace.
Most importantly, if there are two or three hundred youngsters, who get taken to Villa Park, to watch BHA for the first time ( from anywhere in the country ) and get hooked, then, they might just be there at Falmer in 18 months time.

Littlehampton,Wick actually
Weve got 6000 ish fans on saturday which i think is absolutely fantastic and shows when push comes to shove and a big game arises people will turn out.

This in theory does bode well for Falmer providing we are in a decent postion league wise.

I say all this but it does make you wonder when we cant fill withdean or sometimes even get close to the amount were taking away at a home game........WHERE HAVE THESE PEOPLE BEEN HIDING.....?!

Are these ex goldstone fans who couldnt bare to go to withdean, which I feel would be understandable or are they new born fans or the fence sitters who always look out for the result but never have been since the 1991 or was it 1993 Man United home game in which Becks made his debut.

I can picture the scene at Villa Park of balloons, Big hands and that durge of cheap trumpet like horns that will be blown by people who wouldnt know Gary Dicker if he was on the end of the pier with a seagull on his head!

We do sometimes make out that we have great fans and best in the league bla bla bla....but really when push comes to shove we really arnt all that special as a group of fans, granted for a decent away day we can drum up a good number and were well ahead of a lot of small clubs on our day, but I do wish these people that show up on Saturday that you or I have never seen before dont go and hide back in the cave they come out from for this one match wonder day at a prem ground.

Whoever you are and wherever youve been, pop down to withdean it aint all that bad!

LMFAO aint that bad? your shitting me? Used to go to 80-90% home games at Goldstone, but home games now,are 5-6 since we been at Shitdean, away days it has been for me in last 10 years or so, and i will take my daughter to Falmer and show her what its all about, but if i took her to Shitdean,im preety sure it would put her off.

a very sensible view. most of the 'loyal' supporters who attend all games tend to be high earners no commitments or living at home with mummy and daddy. i know i was at the time!

Me too, I was living in Guildfuild so why the heck my dad took me too Brighton for my first ever live game is beyond me. He hated football, and everyone at school supported Chels, Arse or Spurs. The amount of piss take I had to endure when I wore my Nobo sponsored shirt during PE still haunts me today.

Barrel of Fun

I am not sure why people feel the need to get all high and mighty about this sort of occurrence.

The new system ensures that STH get priority. I would imagine at least half of our travelling army are STH. Within that bunch there will be STH that do not tend to travel, travel to some and travel to most/all. Then there will be a lot of fans that prefer to travel away with the Albion. There will be those that travel to some and make the extra effort to make this one.

I would wager that fans that do not go to many/any Brighton games will be in the distinct minority for this one.

Who cares? Let them have fun.

As always, here in peace.

£24 to be at the Withdean? I never realised that your board charges the same amount to watch football at home as we do at Selhurst & it's always bemoaned that £25 for a Championship match is too much.

This really is your 'cup final' (I f***ing hate that saying!) and that's why there's such large numbers going.

While many of you slag off Palace's away support it's interesting to see so many people on here explaining that the reason they don't go to matches is due to the economy, unlike Jamie who's just another fake fan.

Enjoy your day in Brum for all of you who are lucky to get a ticket, for the rest of you who can't I hope that your game is featured on The Jeff Stelling Show so you get decent coverage so you don't just become another faceless scoreline on the vidi-printer!

I'm in for an operation on my back next week so that's the end of my season but if by any fluke we both make it to the final, me, the wife & my soon to be carer will be wheeling our way into the spaz section of Wemberlee. I just hope I aint dribbling

Cheers! I was a bit over dramatic, I'm only going in to get my 'I Love SJ' shag tag tatoo removed by laser surgery in a dodgy B&B in Latvia.

Seriously, it gets me a few months off work so can't all be bad, plus I've bought a season ticket for the local Wetherspoon's nightly lock in as I have plenty of time for a hangover :lolol:

Notts
Hehe, i jumped ship and am now a proud pie :clap2:

I'm not really but, yes i've watched Albion once this season at Torquay compared to virtually every Notts home match. Cos hardly any Albion games have been near, bar Wallsall.

But this Villa thing really takes the pee and perhaps Villa should have given us a few thousand more tickets. So i have to watch Notts v Wigan instead it sucks tbh.

Is it really a mystery as to why we can sell out a big game in the cup against a big team in a top stadium? And why compare it to playing the likes of Walsall in a shit football stadium with no atmosphere or roof? Not really worth a thread, is it?
