So a typical family of 4 has to plant 160 trees in their garden over the next 20 years. Really??

No I wasn't saying that, it was more for indicative purposes on the actual man hours, but it went way over your head.

Gaslit for decades now by billionaire media proprietors, they've received and instructions and most will obey

Before social media came along and armed a generation of gobshites with the ability to press their I’m right/you’re wrong opinions on others ( yes I’m one of them but only because I’m irritated by it so get involved) no one cared too much about who voted for who or why!

I don’t think the said voters give two shits about national parks and trees regretfully.

You’re probably right, sadly.

I honestly think nowhere near enough people understand the climate crisis and what needs to be done. Sadly, Johnson is probably one of those, so we will continue, as a country, to do the wrong thing.

Oh... so someone else is going to do it for me. That's nice.

Will they plant them in their garden?

Nimbyism too - how very Tory.

As you strike me as another one who couldn't care less about climate change and is more interested in sneering at the policy, you were never going to plant any yourself anyway.

Do you honestly believe what you’ve just written there?

Wow!

So let's get this right.
You don't despair at the electorate but you are irritated enough by a generation of gobshites with the ability to press their I'm right/ your wrong opinions enough to get involved and release your charm and knowledge for all and sundry to benefit from your opinions. Ha ****ing ha

I’m having this conversation with you on social media, you’re already spoiling for a fight because you think In some way my opinion isn’t valid!

For the record this is general not climate change issues!

You said nobody cared before social media. I remember those times and can assure you you’re wrong.

I’m not “spoiling for a fight”, just gobsmacked that you think social media has suddenly made everyone care more about politics generally.

Johnson to be interviewed by Andrew Marr after refusing interview with Andrew Neil

This is bound to ruffle a few feathers. Boris Johnson, who is said to be refusing to sit down for an interview with the BBC's Andrew Neil, despite the other party leaders having done so, is now reportedly set to be appear on the Andrew Marr Show this Sunday. No10 will likely use the appearance to point out that the prime minister is happy to be interviewed by the BBC, but that won't satisfy those who want him to face Neil's forensic scrutiny.

Tory minister defends Boris Johnson's reference to 'tank-topped bum boys'

Boris Johnson was entitled to refer to gay men as “tank-topped bum boys” because of his right to “free speech”, a Tory candidate has said.

Chris Philp, a justice minister, defended the prime minister’s notorious comment – and said he personally was not offended because he is not homosexual.

Instead, he described it as “colourful language”, before saying he was not prepared “to give a running commentary" on his bosses’ statements.

This obsession with planting trees shows, to me, how neither Labour or the Tories are bothering to take climate change seriously. It makes a nice headline but the solutions are far more complex. Trees planted now will not have an appreciable offset benefit for say 30 years (ie until approaching fully grown) and emissions will continue to grow. The numbers being talked about will have to use up vast areas of productive farmland which will lead to more intensive, fossil fuel based agricultural practices so that we can feed ourselves (with or without meat). This will be on top of the similarly vast areas of land being used to produce the million homes promised.

Whilst XR may hate the idea, the solution lies in industry coming up with new technologies that enable the changes we will have to make to our lives manageable, whilst reducing or eliminating the need for carbon offset in the first place. (For example, I don't believe people will stop flying en masse but will transfer their support to the airlines that have invested in say electric engines). Therefore a party that promises to support such innovative industries through R&D tax incentives, grants, low business operating costs (low corp tax, bus rate subsidies etc) demonstrates that they actually want to tackle climate change rather than simply grab an election headline.

Not sure labour or the conservatives get it
