I am not a huge Osborne fan. I think Cameron is overall a hugely superior speaker and politician. Clarke would be my choice. Osborne may be good, we don't know.

He still admitted to stealing the Tory policy. Its funny how you perceive it, if it had been Osborne doing that you would have perceived it completely differently and slagged him off. These debates are all pretty pointless anyway. The lefties on here will just believe what they want. What Osborne actually said you would have thought would have been applauded especially re the nhs, lower earners, taxing the higher earners etc but as usual this is ignored or the old " they have no policies " or " they are all posh and speak with funny accents " comes out.

You're unbelievable! You claim the lefties on here just believe what they want. Well that is exactly what you do time and time again. There are plenty of 'tory' voters who reluctantly admit that Osbourne didn't come across well. The programme was dull but Cable edged it.

As others have said, the tory mixed message is going to confuse voters and the election bribe not worth the paper it's written on. Reduce the NI increase for those on 20k to 40k which, apparently, could save you up to £150 per year. Now I'm no tax expert but based on the fact that NI is taxed as a percentage then presumably those at the upper end will be the ones saving £150. So, you're on £40k, ie £3,333 per month. And you are going to vote tory because of an extra £12.50 in your pocket each month!

The Tories main argument has been about starting to reduce the borrowing immediately rather than next year. Yet the first opportunity they have they are going for tax cuts. Also, as Cable pointed out last night, they are going to pay for it based on savings announced by the government last week which they ridiculed.

What I didn't realise until today is that one of the prospective chancellors has an O-Level in mathematics, another one of the three has a PhD in Economics...

... I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned last night.

Rwanda is f***ed. Sierra Leone is f***ed. At a push, Iceland is f***ed. We are NOT f***ed.

I think these debates DO make a difference because, apart from anything else, it's a move towards grown-up debate between the 3 main parties, as opposed to the mass media writing off the third party as a joke despite the fact they consistently carry 20% of the popular vote.

I'd love to know what percentage of voters bottle out of voting Lib Dem because of the stigma or perception of "wasted vote". If it was 10% then all 3 parties would be at parity.

And for the record I think Darling perfomed better than Osbourne.

Give what a rest? He's just provided a well constructed sentence on why Osborne came out poorly and you got stroppy. You really do come across as a child when talking politics.

FWIW, I agree with you with regard to The Independent. They're not really very favourable to the Tories, and those scores are slightly wrong IMO. I'd have given Darling 3/5, Osborne 2.5/5 and Cable 4.5/5. I thought Cable was excellent, to be honest. I also think this represents a victory of sorts for the Tories, because Osborne is considered a weak link, and he really wasn't hopelessly exposed to any great extent here.

Oh FFS, quit the whole "Dad, he's picking on me" childishness whenever someone doesn't agree with you. It's not baiting and it's not personal.

Your 'scoring' of last night's debate is woefully out. I've tried to find another review that places as Osborne as high as you do, but I can't find one anywhere. Scoring as you have can mean only one of two things:

i) You're a very poor political judge. (I'm not that hot but even I can see Darling outplayed him)
ii) You've allowed your judgement to be clouded by preconceptions, exactly what you were telling people not to do.

Which is it?
