I thought it was a joke how The Sun proclaimed Osbourne as the winner.

I think you've gaffed by throwing this one into your list. The Tories have a better claim than Labour in that their man Lord Sebastian Coe is generally regarded as having made the difference in London's bid.

Not really, the bid would never have got off the ground if it weren't for the support from the Mayor and the labour government.

No, you're right, Labour got us the Olympics regardless of Lord Coe's involvement.

To be fair, and I say this as a Tory supporter, that letter is a bit like a turkey writing a letter saying that Christmas is bad. Of course they are going to be anti a measure which will cost them millions of pounds.

It has been good for the Tories though, as it has moved the discussion away from the slightly confusion over Tories wanting to cut spending AND taxes, and onto the actual merits of the idea, and it's a good one. Ultimately an increase in NI is a tax on jobs and on workers.

i didnt watch it so cant judge. however from what i've read, he stood his ground and faired no worse than Darling. Something the Standard this week highlighted that this is in a way a victory as he isnt being made to look nearly as bad as some thought/hoped, and further the constant attention on him, rather than Cameron, suggest Labour dont think they can attack CMD. again, a victory of sorts, Osborne soaks up and deflects alot of attention.

Exactly where did I say Coe had no involvement! Are you a spin doctor in disguise? Perhaps you should learn to read properly.

YOU listed the Olympics coming to London as one of Labour's top achievements of the last 13 years - arguably bollocks to begin with - I then pointed out that the Conservative Lord Coe was instrumental in London getting the gig.

The only spin doctor is you trying to show the Olympics as some sort of Labour 'achievment'.

It's about as credible as saying the Tories under Major were responsible for the successful England bid for "Football's Coming Home Euro '96".

The bid would never have started if the government and the mayor hadn't supported it. How can you argue with that?

However you said 'No, you're right, Labour got us the Olympics regardless of Lord Coe's involvement'. Well that implies I completely dismiss anything that Coe did. I don't. Once the ball was rolling then you need all sorts of people to lobby those that vote for the venue. Coe was the figurehead but there were a host of others, Redgrave, Pinsent, Princess Anne etc etc. So, I never said we got the olympics only because of Labour it just that you can't read or you just chose to interpret things in an odd way. At the end of the day, Coe is not the one underwriting the spending of billions on the event, unless of course you know different.

Besides, it was just one thing I mentioned. I have no problem with the Tories taking some credit for Euro 96. Again, it wouldn't have happened without the support of the government at the time.
