Went to go there with the lil lady the night they were opening after refurbs, unfortunately didn't get to eat. Is it good? We've been looking for a good thai place.

Been there a few times and I've never been disappointed. It's pricier than it was when they first opened but the food is good and the portion sizes are generous.

If you want very good, very authentic and cheap Thai Bangkok Express on London Road is well nice but a bit shabby decor-wise

The seaside.
Pretty poor that Brighton & Hove has reportedly the highest concentration of restaurants outside London's West End, yet not one single Michelin star to its name (one Brighton restaurant had one in the Seventies, but nothing before or since).

Three places in Hove and one in Brighton have Michelin bibs, though (the pikey equivalent of stars): Terre a Terre, Real Eating Company, The Meadow and Ginger Pig pub.

Mellotron, I do go there quite a bit as it's cheap, but let's face it, it's hardly haute cuisine. Also, I've heard tales of their hygiene standards and they're Chinese, despite proclaiming to be Japanese.

You read the same as me presumably?

I was going to post about Brighton's lack of Michelin stars earlier as it really is quite curious given the number of eateries, the wealth in the area and the close proximity to London.

Not that Michelin stars necessarily mean 'best' of course, as best is highly subjective and can encompass both 'fun food' and 'fine dining'. I can enjoy a veggie pad thai in Bristol's cheap and cheerful Teohs as much as I can a 9 course tasting menu in the city's only Michelin starred restaurant Casamia. Different places for different occasions, but I couldn't describe either as being 'best'.

That's a bit shallow.

The size of dwelling has little to do with Michelin-star achievement. In fact, only five new Michelin stars were awarded in England in 2010. You'll find that most places (outside London) with Michelin stars are not even in large towns or cities.

The food is way tastier than Wagamama's, cheaper, and the cuisine is Japanese regardless of the nationality of the people working there.

Oh yeah, what's that like (outta 10, sort of rating)? Been meaning to try it out when back in the neighbourhood for some time.....Japanese place, yeah?

Depends what you're looking for. Personally I would give it a 9. It's a cute little cafe with excellent prices to portions ratios, tasty food and very, very good service.

the best food i have had recently has been in pubs!!

Same here. Pub With No Name, The Hop Poles and The Greys are all outstanding boozers for food.

If we're going down the straightforward restaurant route though, then Riddle & Finn's, The Blue Man and Raj Pavilion all get the big

Riddle and Finns for sure, Fishy Fishy worth a mention. Or make the trip to Cuckfield and Ockenden Manor having downloaded a voucher from their website first and enjoy lunch in a Michelin starred restuarant for £11.95 - bargain.
