It’s very easy to say that the democrats had a bad campaign or Harris was the wrong person.

But the real story is the popularity of Trump. It would have taken someone like Obama to beat Trump this time round. He has won big. Trump attracts blind love or profound hate from the electorate. He found a way to tip the scales in a divided country. I don’t think it was down to what the democrats didn’t do, I think it was about what he did do. He promised wealth. Wealth to many voters who put money above anything else such as honesty, judgment or just plain human decency. He’s played a blinder.
It was clear 18 months/2 years ago that Biden wasn't up to it

The search should have started then and a proper election for the nomination should have been held.

Trump is a vile human, they played on this way to much, people know he is, that's not going to change voters minds.

She didn't cut through, her interviews and rallies where mainly about how bad Trump was and not what she wanted to do.

O it's 100 percent on Biden and the party.

They didn't have a proper succession plan and Biden should have pulled out months before.
Did feel the dems fails to communicate their economic successes, compare US growth with the UK and Europe.

Unlike may here, I don't think this means the US is a bad country just as I don't think the UK is after Brexit. I cannot fathom how the Democrats ended up sticking with Biden, that decision was absolutely fatal for their chances. The sheer hubris of the democrats has proved fatal.
Seeing a lot of the same mistakes as we saw during Brexit, calling those that voted for it thick rather than understanding the reasons a scumbag like Trump can win

All during the campaign the media was calling him scum and his supporters trash, that is not going to change minds

Topped off with Biden calling his supporters trash.

I agree somewhat but I’m not even sure policy issues were that relevant to MAGA

This election was fought on social media.

Musk and Trump controlled the narrative with the help of Russia and China.

There’s that in part but I do think, as a previous poster mentioned. Most Americans felt better off financially under Trump. That nostalgia wins elections.
Not that surprisingly, the financial markets love this result. My investments in US tech will at least make a lot of money today. I’d rather they didn’t and Trump wasn’t president though. That’s coz I’m not a selfish ****.

I agree.

That might have made the result a bit better but I don’t think the democrats had it in them to win after the economic turmoil of the cost of living crisis which was born out of covid and accelerated by conflict in Ukraine and the Middle East.

If you have less dollar in America (in general), you vote change. You are only interested in the person who offers you more, whether they are a pornstar ****ing felon or a genuinely decent person. It’s about the dollar.

Agreed. I always feel safer with a convicted felons who suggest injecting bleach as a possible viral treatment.
No point arguing. Just being in the US earlier this year it was obvious he was going to win.

Democrats picked the second worst candidate possible, and she was easily comparable to the previous 4 years.

She didn’t run a bad campaign but she is woman and she is black.

America is still a largely sexist and racist country , it was always a tall order
Behave. They voted in a black man so that is a crock. The reality is that hardly anyone here knows the realities of living in the US where many have seen a huge deterioration in living standard under the Dems whilst homelessness is an epodemic in some cities, and immigration has allowed to run wild whilst billions of dollars get ploughed into far away wars that could have been negotiated to settlement years ago (but the media would never allow you to believe this). This biggest lesson here for many is that you've been had by the majority of the mainstream media, who have done everything they could to paint Harris as good and likely to win and Trump as bad and likely to lose. Harris was an awful candidate and whenever she was taken off the rehearsed message just turned to word salad.

Yes, they have to reach the people Trump appeals to, not alienate them further. Obviously not everyone is dyed in the wool Trump. It seemed that after the 2019 general election here, that Labour would take ages to win back seats and form government. Hard work along with understanding the disaffected constituents made a difference. It can happen in the US. If anything is left that is.

That growth has obviously not worked its way down to people like Everyday Joe. Ironically, that’s probably because of billionaires like Trump and Musk hoarding the wealth for themselves.

Can Trump now get that extra wealth into the pockets of ordinary American’s or will he just pardon himself and f*** off to the gold course?

A decent chunk of voters have moved over to Trump this time, how many of those would have stayed with more policy and more details?

Wealth creation and a growing economy is paramount in the minds of US voters, unlike the UK.

The problem is that Trump policies are likely to create wealth for people that are already rich, and not much is going to trickle down.
