If they can't move away from they didn't vote because she's a black woman, Vance will win next time up.
Forget black, it was because she’s a woman. I don’t think Michelle Obama would’ve succeeded either.

Yes, I agree but I think the issue has been with the messaging not with the lack of policy.

The Dems did have policies, Harris had a policy plan - yet, as I said several days ago, she needed to stop saying why people should vote Trump and start focussing on why they should vote for her and get that policy messaging across to the electorate. They got sucked in to Trump’s gameplan.

As I said, the narrative of the campaign has been controlled all along by Musk and Trump on social media:

Fake news and AI videos swamping Fb, repeated fear mongering, lying mantras about immigration, constantly playing someone victimised by the media, by the Department of Justice, by Washington and the ‘deep state’. Whatever way possible, Trump made himself larger than life, parodying himself for laughs, with rambling word salads, shocking comments, whatever he could do to suck the air out of the room and keep the focus on himself.

No doubt there will be plenty of time for post-election analysis - at the moment, I just think the next 4 years with Trump as ‘leader of the free world’ will be chaotic, dangerous and unpredictable …

Or

best case scenario - he stays in the Presidential bedroom stuffing his face with hamburgers while tweeting narcissistic word salads on Truth Social for the next 4 years as he did in his first term while the grown ups in the room did damage limitation and tried to run the country.
Hasn’t he sacked all the grown ups in the room, who’ve subsequently publicly stated what a disaster he’d be if re-elected?

Kinnell.
So the populist politics of hate, division and misogyny win out then. Seems some people genuinely believe he is interested in anything other than revenge, ensuring his ego didn’t suffer the ignominy of being a one term president and wealth accumulation. Not forgetting allowing Elon Smell et al to peddle uncensored nonsense online (you think social media is bad now!) and Vlad some lovely holiday homes in Western Europe. The world is just that little bit darker this morning.

Viva California.

From what I am watching it is largely down to the economic belief that people will be better off with Trump.

I guess immigration is a big thing too but it is hard to imagine a country would make such a daft decision based on the spectre of immigrants.
I hope journos start measuring closely how their economy performs next four years.

another thing is Trump was absolutely everywhere every day

Harris seemed to go days without seeing her
She behaved just like Hillary Clinton. She didn't put the legwork in. She was arrogant and assumed victory. Trump and his team campaigned properly, in the faces of people all the time. Plus, she was a lightweight candidate. The senile Biden had to be replaced but she was a poor choice, failing to inspire a large section of the electorate.

It's a bold choice for people to try and claim what Democrats should do in future elections given there's a non-zero chance there might not be any future presidential elections from here.

Trump has vowed to go after his enemies, you can bet that includes many top Democrats. And thanks to SCOTUS he can do whatever he wants to them, and it's all perfectly legal. Perhaps we should offer the Obamas safe passage while we still can?
sure, if the Senate and House enable him to change the constitution and supreme justices chose to ignore law. then it's on them really. the whole US system is setup to prevent a President from having much direct power, to avoid exactly this sort of scenario.

look his economic policy is chaotic, foreign policy vague. he's likely to face opposition within own team to most because it's so nonsensical and goes against american interests. he didnt change much last time, dont see he'll change much this time either.

It's all well and good railing against the lunacy of voting for Trump, but what exactly is the alternative?

Politics is broken. It has pandered to the needs of billionaires, for decades.
The vast majority of voters, don't trust a word politicians say, and will vote for someone who appeals directly to their personal opinions.

Populism will continue to win out.
We will see it happen here too.

No.

And that’s not just hindsight.
Well I know as much about betting as I do about life in Mongolia as a sheep herder which is probably why I don’t bet on anything and why I take no notice of them

I do know a little bit about politics though and have never thought Harris had this sewn up even when the polls suggested she was ahead this campaign - every swing state’s polling has consistently been within the margin of error. And that’s not just hindsight either ☹️

You honestly believe that? Really?

I assume it was down to how late in the day it all happened, but Harris's website was a blank page on policy for a fair amount of time after she was announced as the candidate, more of the same is a hard sell as well.

The move away from the "main stream media" (a term I hate) is interesting, my experience with the exception of Fox the news channels over there tend to be more left leaning, but people are just not watching it anymore, why is this? Why are people seeing Twitter as a better source of news.

I think both sides were using clips taken out of context , republicans were just much better at doing it.

Personally I don't want a Trump presidency, but I can't see it being as dangerous as mentioned in this thread, guess we will see.
