It appears that in each area where those Labour folk were on holiday and not working, the Democrats lost quite a lot of votes.

I'm delighted you've been able to find a Labour party angle on this

Or a raped and impregnated child. My admiration for Jacob Rees Mogg twindled after he admitted that he thinks such victims should have to carry the baby full term. Is Arizona that extreme?
"Arizona" isn't extreme, no. We have certainly had some extreme politicians over the years though (Sheriff Joe Arpaio, anyone?).

As a state it has had GOP control of the house and senate for almost all of the last 20 years. The GOP recently has tended to elect nut-jobs in its primaries who then get beaten by the Democrat opponent in the general election. It used to be regarded as a red state but it is very much a "purple" state these days. Our sitting Senator is a Democrat and it looks like Democrat Ruben Gallego will beat Kari Lake for the other Senate seat this time around. The Governor is a Democrat.

The abortion proposition is going to pass.

What's the mood like in AZ @AZ Gull. Looks like Trump is circa 6% up on voting.
I'm not sure I could tell you what the mood is like. I'm not an overtly political animal - I enjoy the drama of election night (in both the UK and the US) but I have little interest in following political media most of the time. I have a good friend who leans very heavily Democrat, who has been out canvassing recently, and I'm sure she'll be pretty devastated. I would guess most of my friend group would vote Democrat but I don't seek out political conversation.

I know there are some work colleagues who will be happy with Trump's victory but I would rather stick neeedles in my eyes than instigate a political conversation at work. If I'm engaging with someone on a personal level at work I would rather not know how they vote. There is a guy I used to work with here who was sports mad and I enjoyed engaging with him; on numerous occasions we went to Spring Training games and he's a decent guy. I knew he voted Republican but our conversation was mostly around sport and family. Once Trump appeared on the scene he became a huge fan; in the lead up to the Brexit vote he came to my office one day and said "That Nigel Farage, he's amazing isn't he?" It genuinely affected how I saw the chap and I found I no longer wanted to engage with him. He left the company a few years ago. So, political conversation is a huge no-no for me at work.

When all is said and done, although the result of this election wasn't what I wanted, the sun still rose this morning and it will still set this evening. I've just been out for a walk and the weather is (finally) superb. Life goes on.

The family photo of the Trump 'dynasty' including Elon Musk is a bit worrying
