On NSC for over two decades...
I get the impression that millions voted for Trump with eyes wide open.

It struck me that Americans are very different from Brits when they elected as supreme leader their equivalent of Ronald Allen, housewives' heartthrob actor from the TV soap, Crossroads. Also called Ronald. The 'Gipper'.

And they don't see socialism, even in its watered down UK Labour form, as remotely acceptable.

At the end of the day, Biden/Harris were unable to stop Putin or Netanyahu. If Trump doesn't even pretend to 'oppose' them, what's the difference?

So I'm going to look on the positive side. Trump will either do no harm, or he will expose himself as a charlatan, unable to achieve what he promised, and a reinvigorated Democrat pantry may rise again.

This will of course require that the Democrats sort themselves out. They seem a very long way away from that presently.

We'll just have to see how it pans out. With any luck he'll be too busy playing golf to start a trade war with China.

My concern from here is should be Dems win in 4 years will the power be passed over? Biden only came to power because Pence believed in the rule of law, don't count on good men to do the right thing again

Well...thank God we have the Labour Party to rescue us, turn our economy round and create wealth for us all.
I don't expect the labour government to create wealth. I expect them to facilitate moderation and balance

If wealth is what you expect from a government then I would imagine you will be backing the over-promisers.

Just the gradual creeping westwards of Russia. You happy with that?
The post war policy was about containing the USSR/Russia not destroying it. Giving long range missiles like 2tier kier wants to blow up Moscow isn't containment.

Ukraine needs peace and guaranteed security(Containment of /Russia) even if that costs a chunk of Crimea.

It will be interesting to see how Labour react. Lammy especially.
Lammy will be told to keep his gob shut.

Starmer has already congratulated the winner.

Incidentally if you are concerned about what people have said in the past, read what the new vice president said about Trump a few years ago.....

Not my point, but one put across, a most important election finally fought out by two candidates of a certain calibre.
Right. But that's got nothing to do with what I posted!

I agree with the above, the wife and daughter are deeply upset and said before the election that they will not go back if Trump wins.
A very bold statement considering half our family live over there, my father in law voted for Trump, he is not a stupid man, owned his own business, recently retired and has sold the land his business sat on for a substantial sum of money, Rodney & Del would be happy with.
My daughter said in the car on the way to school she was upset because of the result and that it would affect the world. Half of this fear is coming from the wife and her drumming into her the affect Trump will have on Womens rights etc.
I explained rightly or wrongly that over half the people voted from Trump, they were not all white men, those votes come from a wide diverse background and we have to respect their wishes, we are looking in from a different perspective, your grandad voted for Trump for himself and tax reasons, he is not racist or hates women, he is a great grandad and father to your mum and auntie, he practically brought them up alone, and made your mum and auntie what they are today and in turn you. He is not a bad man for voting Trump, and that is the story of middle America I guess or my take on it.

I was thinking about this last night, the worse thing that actually happened to America if you do not like Trump was not him winning the first term or even this term, it was losing in 2020, it would be over now.

My main concern for the American people is the 2025 project, that is a concern among many others.
I do not hate or think all Americans are stupid for voting for Trump, I do not understand it, but I am not in their shoes.

I do worry about the future, but I keep that to myself.

Haven't you heard of the Minsk agreement that Putin ignored or should they just give up Eastern Ukraine and give do a deal?

Yeah ok but what’s the worse that can happen.
Whatever people think of USA they have been at the forefront of wanting to keep world peace Worry is now without support of Usa Taiwan will be taken over by China and with Ukraine unable to finance defending themself Russia will take them over. If this happens where will it end.

As I predicted from the get-go. Gutted for Ukraine, gutted for Europe, UK, NATO, American women, American minorities.

My only consolation is the betting company I used have already paid out and I’m up over £600 for the year now. I’ve managed to profit off a bad situation - what could be more Republican than that.

I am reminded of the Corbyn election. I was at drama school at the time, and made some deeply unpopular predictions to my peers which went against the consensus. Namely that we are in an echo chamber, and can’t assume that everyone in the country agrees just because the views in the campus are unanimous. Relatedly, while there are a lot of stupid people in the world, the primary concern for most people is self-interest. Trump has spoken to those voters and they’ve liked his message.

David Lammy is, and always has been, free to voice whatever opinion he wants. That's how free speech works.

If Trump doesn't like it then that's tough shit. We don't bow down to bullies in this country, never have done.
