I may be being a bit naive here but wouldn’t it make sense for the French to agree to us having border guards, to supplement their own patrols on the beaches where the boats are, predominately, launched from or has Brexit scuppered that? Surely, if the gangsters launching the boats realised it would be stopped, that would lead to proper vetting of claims, which IMHO, should be carried out in a UK designated area in France. The UK cost of providing the resources and the holding areas for this would be worth it. As I said before, I think that Brexit has exacerbated the problem as there used to be French Customs at our Channel Ports.
The French have made repeated offers for a processing centre in France for potential arrivals, it’s the UK Government which has said No. Presumably on the basis of creating an electoral advantage.

I’m assuming you can evidence that statement.
That's for the law to decide, not you or I. I expect there are official figures showing how many that have had their claims processed have been adjudged to be economic migrants.

Anyway, time for a swim before dinner, and my phone needs charging.

If one were so minded one could also suggest that HM Govt. continually fumbling this particular football is a tactic designed to make life difficult for the next HM Govt...i.e....not them

I’m intrigued how you can claim something is happening but can’t provide the evidence to back your statement up. Still I’m not surprised someone who thinks they know how the international movement of people works better than the UN does can be so confident in their bluster and BS.

As others have said, another for the ignore list.

Thanks for that, I didn’t realise that that was the case. Can you explain why that would give an electoral advantage? Doesn’t make sense to me. Surely, between our two nations, there must be a workable solution.

repulsive Tories with Blood on their hands,

Maybe I have misunderstood the situation. Are these people being forced onto boats at gunpoint against their own free will? Thought not. Therefore they are, of their own free will, deciding to fork out large sums of money to make a dangerous and illegal crossing of the channel when they had the option of staying in France. Not sure how the Tories can be blamed.

we have. https://www.theguardian.com/politic...migration-detention-centre-france-rishi-sunak. a lot ocoast to cover.
get fuzzy on that "designated area of France" as they dont want them there either. the solution of safe routes mean dispensing with that stage, a place to make an asylum claim, a migrant visa, whatever, then come across for the duration of the process.

The French did agree. Johnson neglected to implement it.

I said 'what I suspect" and I then said "or they may be".
I did not "claim" that they were.
However, haven't there already been hundreds of asylum seekers adjudged to be economic migrants and held for deportation?

Gods country fortnightly
24 point lead for Labour.

Will the Tories highly successful small boats move the dial?

It allows the Tories to keep the boats coming, creating an electoral “wedge issue” which they can then performatively try and stop through ever more draconian methods (barges, Rwanda) knowing they ultimately won’t work but can then blame their failure on “lefty judges”, the ECHR, the Labour Party and anyone else they want to deflect to to curry favour with their base support.

They love all this migrant stuff. The more it carries on, the more they can blame the French, the EU, the woke, the labour party....even the drownings feed their trope ("if only they had gone the legal route....very sad...but of couse we know that the blame lies with..."...blah blah...."and we have commissioned a barge and a camp site in Rwanda that will put an end to all this"....righty ho. But the tories don't want an end to it. Whatabout Jeremy Corbyn?).

The crosses of St George are flying high (from the front gardens of the brave English folk, in their houses at Kingsdown, Lydd, etc.)

Thanks, I didn’t know that. Can’t understand why?
Johnson won the election on Dec 12th 2019, with Get Brexit Done, on an 80 page dossier which went through Parliamen in weeks.
Seemingly, despite the paperwork laying in a room only 6 Tory MPs actually read it.
I doubt there was much attention to any details.

Well, being a Tory, you wouldn't want to accept the blame! I say a tory but your comments might put you further to the right, maybe the Reform bunch of muppets.

I've been asking a similar question; why are they so keen to come to the UK rather than claiming asylum in Greece, Italy, France or wherever they first landed in a "safe" country. Apparently, "they are not obliged to claim asylum in the first safe country" and "it is their legal right to try to claim asylum in the UK". So, it's all the Tories fault. All clear now?

Most of them do go to other countries, as I pointed out earlier. This is per head of population, so the size of the countries are not applicable.
