Definitely 'No'. If they hadn't effectively made every asylum seeker illegal then the process would have carried on as it was, with slow but methodical processing of the backlog and relatively few small boats.

They have created a crisis to use as a tool to polarize the population, distract from other (more) serious issues and bolster their dwindling supporter base. Not one thought about what would be the 'right' thing to do.

I’d settle for sane and tolerable tbh.

This smells to me like “the wall with Mexico” was to Trump, get everyone rabid and all eyes focused on it, even if legally dubious. It doesn’t matter if it passes or not, just as long as it sets out a contentious position and keeps people angry and fighting among themselves.

Let’s not fall for this divide and rule nonsense again. It leaves us with politicians like the current lot.

Virtually all migration comes down to economic, political, cultural and climatic reasons...thanks to capitalism and political and religious persecution millions are on the move across the globe.

To 'stop the boats' in the future, you have to stop the boats now. All of them.

If they REALLY want to get this done, why not fly the planes over to France, round up these people from the camps and THEN fly them to Rwanda? Cuts out the 'small boats' thing right away...

Only to the extent that I believe the ECHR has jurisdiction in Calais....

But who needs human rights? Sunak promised to return a migrant to UK if a court decided the government should do so.
It's a safe bet he was referring to UK courts and not the ECHR.

I'd be interested to know what your views and opinions are with how the lefty Labour Party would deal with this issue. If anyone thinks they can put a stop to it then they're deluded.

There is, quite fittingly for you, an extremely simple solution. Reverse the steps taken by the current Government over the last 13 years. Namely,

1. Reinstate the ability to claim Asylum from abroad and let those granted asylum come into Britain, start work and contribute to Society.
2. Reopen legal Asylum routes to allow claimants
3. Work with Interpol again to target people traffickers
3. Re-employ more caseworkers to clear the backlog of applications.

You will then reverse the current Government policy of forcing asylum seekers into the hands of people smugglers and risking their lives in the channel. Interestingly, the Government's policy of having 10's of thousands arriving across the channel completely uncontrolled and not processing them, has allowed all sorts of people to get in, something Albanian gangs caught onto quickly, obviously far more competent than our Government

What camps? The French police destroy any camps they find. There hasn’t been a camp since Sangatte was closed.
