Re-establish safe routes and invest in effective processing of claims.

The problem with that (or any solution) is that in fixing the problem they lose their only means of guaranteeing they keep getting their base to the voting stall and ticking their box. They have nothing left but stoking the "culture war" and this is the main thrust of it.

With that in mind, do the Tories actually want to fix it? I'd wager no

The past few weeks are the latest example that makes a mockery of the term United Kingdom. It's anything but – and doesn't look like it will be for a LONG time...

Same for Great Britain

Sadly, with this lot in power, the words "United" and "Great" are getting further and further away from reality.

Definitely 'No'. If they hadn't effectively made every asylum seeker illegal then the process would have carried on as it was, with slow but methodical processing of the backlog and relatively few small boats.

They have created a crisis to use as a tool to polarize the population, distract from other (more) serious issues and bolster their dwindling supporter base. Not one thought about what would be the 'right' thing to do.

Make Britain Great again

🇬🇧

I’d settle for sane and tolerable tbh.

This smells to me like “the wall with Mexico” was to Trump, get everyone rabid and all eyes focused on it, even if legally dubious. It doesn’t matter if it passes or not, just as long as it sets out a contentious position and keeps people angry and fighting among themselves.

Let’s not fall for this divide and rule nonsense again. It leaves us with politicians like the current lot.

Apologies if I missed this, but I've just seen Lee Anderson – the DEPUTY CHAIRMAN of the Tory party, no less, suggested that they "ignore the laws and send them straight back".

Is he angling for Cleverley's job already, or just a place in Braverman's cabinet when the swivel-eyed righty loons vote her in to replace Rishi Rich?

Edit: And Sunak agrees with him, but the looks of it!

Virtually all migration comes down to economic, political, cultural and climatic reasons...thanks to capitalism and political and religious persecution millions are on the move across the globe.
This will never be " solved " merely delayed. There needs to be a World Forum in order to come up with an agreement to work together and not shit on the planet and eliminate poverty.

The central tenet of the Rwanda policy is that it will act as a deterrent to migrants, i.e. stop the boats.
Since the policy has not been tested, this is an act of faith. How can the government be so sure?

To 'stop the boats' in the future, you have to stop the boats now. All of them.
Will migrants still take a chance and risk being taken to Rwanda? I would have thought that some will and some won't.

Unfortunately enough people fall for it every time

If they REALLY want to get this done, why not fly the planes over to France, round up these people from the camps and THEN fly them to Rwanda? Cuts out the 'small boats' thing right away...

You think that lot would give a shite about THEM?
Only to the extent that I believe the ECHR has jurisdiction in Calais....

But who needs human rights? Sunak promised to return a migrant to UK if a court decided the government should do so.
It's a safe bet he was referring to UK courts and not the ECHR.

I'd be interested to know what your views and opinions are with how the lefty Labour Party would deal with this issue. If anyone thinks they can put a stop to it then they're deluded.

There is, quite fittingly for you, an extremely simple solution. Reverse the steps taken by the current Government over the last 13 years. Namely,

1. Reinstate the ability to claim Asylum from abroad and let those granted asylum come into Britain, start work and contribute to Society.
2. Reopen legal Asylum routes to allow claimants
3. Work with Interpol again to target people traffickers
3. Re-employ more caseworkers to clear the backlog of applications.

You will then reverse the current Government policy of forcing asylum seekers into the hands of people smugglers and risking their lives in the channel. Interestingly, the Government's policy of having 10's of thousands arriving across the channel completely uncontrolled and not processing them, has allowed all sorts of people to get in, something Albanian gangs caught onto quickly, obviously far more competent than our Government

Boat Crossings
(Numbers weren't recorded prior to 2018 as the government thought them inconsequential).
2018 - 299
2019 - 1,890
2020 - 8,466
2021 - 28,526
2022 - 45,755

Asylum Backlog
2012 - 9,800
2018 - 27,000
2022 - 161,000

Because if you actually process them, you don't have to pay for barges, flights to Rwanda, Hostels, etc or any of this other complete bolleaux.

Or, alternatively, you can continue to believe this whole ridiculous 'illegal immigrant' narrative from this disgusting inhumane cabal of proven liars and let them continue to royally take the piss out of you and treat you like some sort of ridiculously naïve, slavering idiot

If only Rishi and his government had focused on Stopping Poverty instead of Stopping the Boats ?

Sunak is basically betting the house to do something the next Labour government will simply reverse almost straight away

What camps? The French police destroy any camps they find. There hasn’t been a camp since Sangatte was closed.

The ruling today was at pains to point out, the scheme is not only unlawful via the ECHR, but also the United Nations, and three existing British laws.
