I said this on another thread a few weeks ago, so it might well have been buried. Not that I understand the full blown workings, but here goes...

I was having a conversation with Derek Chapman back in April, who, as you know is very involved in the project.

He was talking about the finances - not the details, just the machinations. He was saying about the fluidity of the financing package and how they can factor in so many variables into the programme (something I'm assuming was a glorified Excel spreadsheet, though probably far more sophisticated than that), including how repayments can be met in the event of a rise or fall in the numbers through the door, a rise or fall in merchandising, sponsorship, advertising, salaries - everything that goes into the running of the club.

"Oh, we've got this programme, you can type any facking numbers in that affect the stadium, and it will give you a whole load of new reports and forecasts. It's brilliant..."

The point I'm making is that the club appears to be very aware of all financial conditions affecting various aspects of trade and industry, and how they might affect the club, and is cutting its cloth accordingly.

That was the feeling I got from him, anyway.

Yes I hear that TLO - my concerns are two fold. One is that `he would say that wouldn't he`. No-one involved in the project would dare share any deep rooted concerns with anyone but the innermost circle because the project is partly confidence based, especially at the moment. Secondly - even since April, conditions have worsened so much that what was achievable then may not be now. Truly I hope not, but I think we all need to be aware of the dangers.

On a slightly different note, I've just added Steward 433 to my ignore list as I got fed up with reading page upon page of endless posts of utter SHITE. This thread is actually readable now.

All of a sudden the board is a better place again.

utter SHITE?

i thought he was the only one on here who spoke the truth and knew EVERYTHING :jester:

Fair points.

In return, I'd say this. I don't know if you've met Derek Chapman, but to me he comes across to me as someone will happily call a spade a spade. Actually, perhaps that's a wee bit unfair, but my point is he didn't have to tell me anything. And if he was that concerned, I don't think he'd have bothered saying anything. He didn't appear concerned.

Your second point is kind of covered in the post you just replied to. Economic conditions probably have worsened, and this is where this flexible financial planning spreadsheet programme thing comes in - to factor in a whole host of financial considerations and re-work the package accordingly.

I'm in no way an expert on these things, but I read that this economic downturn might last a year to 18 months or so. This is a financial package that will be in place for 10/15/20/25/30 years.* Seeing as no-one knows how things will be in 5 or 10 years' time, surely the economic situation now ought not impact too heavily on the lifetime of the package? Perhaps someone can comment...?

Spose. But at least over half of its gone now. After all theres only so many ways to post that you know more than everyone else on any subject thats discussed.

But i don't know more than everyone else and that is just supposition. Also you may have noticed i only post on subjects i know about hence you will never see me post on a cricket thread.
