I think you're forgetting that the Green agenda is to block the car part of the road so badly that eventually every car driver won't use the area - good for a handful of cyclists but bad for all the retail outlets of the area.

bad for my brothers in sainsbury's lewes road.

As your the one who works in public transport surely you would better suited to answer that?
I would guess its the increased number of students, high parking costs and more restrictions on driver getting into Brighton being forced on to buses rather than choosing to..
Are we also the most expensive bus service outside London?
All the evidence says that it's the frequency and regularity of the bus service that achieves increased ridership. As for fares, frequency of service leads to increased use and frequent users enjoy the value for money that the Brighton fare structure offers.

What am i missing?
As a direct cost of motoring into Brighton ... parking charges.

Yes, that's exactly the agenda of the greens. None of them have cars and they don't want anyone driving at all. It's all black and white, you can't just reduce the amount of pointless journeys in the city you have to brick over every road so no-one can drive.
Seriously though, do you not think there's too many pointless car journeys in this city? Gridlock everywhere and our lovely city could look so much nicer with reduced congestion. Good luck to em.

I'm a resident of the coombe road area, I voiced my concerns and suggested that this project does not go ahead. I don't think putting bus lanes anywhere improves things but never mind. I think the decision was made before the vote went ahead...

Getting everyone out of their cars is a decent idea but they need to sort out the infrastructure first... make short bus journeys cheaper rather than a total rip-off unless you're using a ticket time and again and provide some park and rides outside the city, like Oxford.

ehm...not going to happen. The Greens won't be around long enough to try and do that.

Like Gladiator, it's been aranged.

Needs better signage (to avoid being in the wrong lane) 8

I'm sorry...WHAT?? I mean, it's not rocket surgery to work out which way to go? Turning right = right lane. Straight on up the Lewes Road = middle lane. Hollingdean + Sainsbury's = left lane. If you don't understand that then I'm sorry but who gave you your license?

The City Council, the bus companies, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brighton & Hove Business Forum and now the local residents agree with it.

they don't have anything to lose. Buses need most of the road. Taxis think they own the road. B&HBF + BHAFC use public transport more than cars. BHAFC only lets the people who pay park at the ground, and moreover used buses and P&R to accommodate fans.

this scheme will get stupid around about the point when people on manual vehicles like cycles try and get on the dual carriageway..

And the taxi trade agree with it.

Having attended a couple of presentations on the proposals, I'm convinced it will make the Vogue gyratory safer for pedestrians, as well as cyclists. Some important details have been changed (for the better) in response to the consultations. Simplifying the traffic signals and road layout will improve traffic flows, not worsen them. And the area will look better, too.

No scheme will ever be perfect, since there will always be issues with traffic entering and emerging from Sainsburys - and the Council doesn't have either the powers or the funds to do anything to move the entrance to the car park.

How simple do you need to make it? I know it's not the easiest thing to navigate but quite a few people don't have a problem with it, apart from the several stereotypes of bad drivers, and a few cyclists who the highway code might as well not apply to.

As an ex resident, why don't they just acquire the buildings in the middle of the system, knock them down and create a much more simple cross roads

I'm sure you could move the pub to next to the offy, and the BP next to the sainos! Ace idea.

I think everyone can agree that if all the modelling suggests that this scheme will work and if it managed correctly then it will be a success, can't we? It's all in the management. The cycle lane is shit at the moment because everyone thinks they can just park in the cycle lane, which they can because there is no management.

build a wall, with appropriate cutaways for bus stops and taxi ranks and the like. By the way. I almost Jonathan Ross'd 'rank', if you know what I mean.

Blame the greens!
Blame the students!
Blame people who like progression!
Blame anyone who has a different opinion to me!
All I wanna do is drive my car everywhere!
How did we win the war?

hey be nice man. I'm sure you're not a 'helmet off and use the whole lane gaily' cyclist! :D

I guess I disagree with... the national cyclists' organisation. If you can't cycle without 1 metre of safety room either side then you shouldn't be on the road, since most of the cyclist lanes in the city are far more narrow than on the Old Shoreham Road. Or do they propose to make every cycle lane as wide as that, in which case we may as well pedestrianise the city right now.

that's like middle lane hogs on the motorway. My god in heaven..

Being truthful, I'm a helmet off but a lights on and stopping at all traffic lights kinda guy. I keep a lid on my gaiety until I reach the seafront. :)

Respect :D

Is that a long winded way of saying yes?

Get you now, don't pay for parking, as go in after 8 or park at my dads place. If I have to go in during the day and need to park then wil use the bike.

No.

A whole day network ticket for the Bristol area costs £6.00.

The equivalent ticket for the Brighton and Hove area is £4.00 (if bought in advance or in a shop).

Ok, i stand corrected, second most expensive
We are one of the most expensive aren't we?
