Ferdinand - lucky to get in the team based on his recent ability and his attitude stinks. He's a yob, a hooligan and a liar. Disgraceful decision.

So we swap an adulterer for a drugs cheat.

I wonder what the consensus will be on this? Again, it's probably the right footballing decision given the circumstances (captained his club, successful etc...) but kind of shoots down in flames the argument that the England captain needs to be squeeky clean.
Ferdinand isn't a drug cheat, he's an idiot. I think the main issue isn't neccesarily one of morailty but of squad harmony.

I think Capello's trying to make a point that while Terry shouldn't now be captain, who IS captain is not actually that big a deal.

Look at what he says.

Not Luton! Thank God

You could apply that to quite a few of the England squad. Ferdinand hasn't (yet) been exposed as having f***** another england squad players wife. That in any team environment is going to be bad, but clearly doesn't make him capabale of leading that person in a team.

Right decision IMO

if he needed to be squeaky clean, then terry wouldnt have got it in the first place. the england captain needs to have the respect of his team mates and be able to unite them when things aren't going so well - terry obviously wont be able to do that as he has been shafting one of his best friends missus

ferdinand is one of the more experienced players and is obviously popular in the squad. the one concern id have is that his elevation to captain could mean a guaranteed start, something which shouldnt be the case given his injuries and form of late

Utter bollocks!

The correct behaviour is for Terry to go out and win the world cup for us. Who gives a f*** what he or any of the other players get up to when the walk off the pitch.

How do you know he is a complete prick? Know the guy do you? Likewise how do you others know he's mates with Bridge? Are you chummy with all of your work colleagues?

People have affairs all the time from every walk of life, get over it! No one got hurt, no one broke the law.

I don't care what they do in their private life either, but it ceases to be private when it affects the team - which this has.

Plus, I think it's a safe call that Terry is a prick. He has a wife and kids and he's shagging anything that moves including one of his best friend's ex-wife. I think that qualifies him as a bit of a prick.

As for no-one getting hurt, I think it's safe to say that Bridge has been hurt. And he's a likely member of the England squad for the WC. That's what makes this a football issue.

It's a good decision, well done Fabio.

As much I can't say he IS a drugs cheat, you can't say he isn't.

the fact remains he was banned for 8 months for missing a drugs test. A ban that will remain on his record forever.

I don't understand how people can comment saying things like "Capellos lost it." We don't know the full story, we don't know if players have said they are unwilling to play under his captaincy.

I'd have Gerrard captain over Rio. Much less injury prone and is a club captain.

There's a wonderful simplicity to his logic and reasoning, and I like the way he'd lined up a vice-vice captain in Gerrard.

With all the vice going around the England team I bet Cappello's got a list of 5 on the go. I just hope he doesn't get that list mixed up with his penalty taker list, otherwise we might be one failed drugs test and one night club fracas away from Jermain Defoe with the armband...

JT is the sort of guy you'd want to be going into battle with, a leader amongst men and a top one at that. Leads by example on the field anh has done a teriffic job as captain. As someone has previously mentioned if it's not JT it's got to be Rio or Stevie G.

Crodo....you don't work as a wind up merchant, because 50% of the stuff you say is correct.

Capello for PM

Fab work Fabio, JT was already on his third life, Dad of the year what a complete joke? Perhaps the government should take a leaf out of Fabio's book and sort this country out once and for all...

Capello = WEAK manager.

The media have loaded the gun and he was stupid enough to shoot it. Who's is he going to give the armband to??... Nightclub attacker? Drug test failure? Stewardess attacker? Roaster? Prossie Shagger? Stricker who constantly moans and swears at refs? or a player that isn't guarenteed a starting place?

Total tosh!

Capello had made clear to his players what he expected of them. Unlike previous England managers he made it known that he was the boss, not the players. Basically he drew a line in the sand.

John Terry chose to ignore that line, crossed it and then got caught crossing it. He wasn't even clever enough not to get caught. He then tried to hide behind some spurious injunction safe, or so he thought, from exposure.

Now at last all the prima donna's who thought that they could behave in any fashion they thought will finally realise that to be paid as a superstar you have responsibilities to act like one. In time this experience will strengthen the team as a unit and we may just just see the dividends come June.

Really don't have a problem with Rio being captain. Wouldn't have bothered me if he had chosen Gerrard or Lampard either. Any one of them would give it 100%.

A piece of cloth on the arm is really not that important. Form is paramount and if Rio is unfit and/or out of form he shouldn't play. Same goes for anyone else. It's February 5th, the World Cup is four months away. Plenty of time for players to regain form...or lose it.

Too much hysterical comment about this. I don't think it makes any difference to our World Cup chances one way or the other.
