It is not just an ex-girlfriend, is it? It is the mother of Bridge's child and it is not just a team mate, it is his friend. His actions have led to this instability - if it can be described as that. I don't see how dropping Terry as captain is going to have much/any effect.

I think captaincy is overstated. Besides, Terry comes across as an egotistical, self absorbed tosser. Not great captain material in my humble opinion.

Instead of all these gagging clauses and court orders, he should have come clean and offered multiple apologies for his behaviour and stepped down as captain in the first place.

I hope he doesn't go to South Africa.

I see what your saying, but that is the exact reason we will never win anything. It's plain for all to see that Terry is a winner and the last bit is frankly ridiculous. At the moment he is best centre half.

The moral high ground is all well and good but it depends on what you want. Mediocrity or a winning side with our best eleven players and the best skipper.

Why lumber him with the extra pressure, though? He is so key to our chances, it is not worth the risk.

He's the most fearless player I've ever seen. What pressure?

And also, if not him, then who?

Would much rather Rooney than Gerrard.

Maybe this might actually get a performance or two out of Gerrard for England though.

I think Gerrard plays better as captain. I hope the captaincy would bring the best out of him. Don't like strikers or goalies as captains, prefer centre defence or centre mid.

Rooney + captain of Man Utd = Playing average, and not scoring many.
Rooney - captain of Man Utd = Playing very well, and scoring plenty.

They mentioned it in a recent game (possibly vs Arsenal?), when Fergie made Evra captain. Rooney being captain gave him too much to concentrate on, and Fergie just wanted him concentrating on scoring.

Press conferences, all manner of official engagements, just things I don't think he should be concerned with.

Give it to an older player, doesn't really matter too much who. Gary Neville would be my pick if he was playing. Could have Gerrard, Ferdinand, Barry, James, any of them.

The "RIGHT" management decision for the "TEAM", give it to Rooney or Gerrard!

If Terry lost the Captaincy due to media pressure, then it was the wrong decision. You cant have your team dictated to by the media. Who next for the media to go after?

If it was purely a football one, i.e Capello has spoken to other squad players and they had lost faith in Terry, then it was the right decision to make.

I'm sure Capello wouldn't be the type to be lent on by the moralists at the FA.

Capello = WEAK manager.

The media have loaded the gun and he was stupid enough to shoot it. Who's is he going to give the armband to??... Nightclub attacker? Drug test failure? Stewardess attacker? Roaster? Prossie Shagger? Stricker who constantly moans and swears at refs? or a player that isn't guarenteed a starting place?

I reckon that Capello has got both a sense of what's right and wrong and a pair of balls bigger than most involved at the higher level of the game, to stand up to these overpaid, out of control prima donnas. I'm not even much of an England supporter but hats off to the man - it's a brave and correct decision.

Now being reported by the Times. Ruddy 'eck. I thought Capello would sit on it for a bit, perhaps he knows that there is more to come...

i think that could be it

capello was, apparently, all for keeping terry as his captain. all he wanted was honest answers about what happened when they met. if terry has been honest with him, and the fact that there is quite clearly more to this to come out, then in a few weeks time it will appear to be even more of a correct decision that it already is

As a team leader, you MUST portray the correct behaviours and lead by example, its a fact whether people like that or not!

I, as a manager always ensure I have a no.2 within my team who has respect and portrays the right behaviours that breeds the correct behaviours in my team.

Terry is a great footballer but also a complete PRICK!! Correct decision!!!
