I'm not sure about this. I live and work in Leeds and find the majority of Leeds fans, be it football or rugby league, to be absolute tossers. Even people I work with. Northern people associate sport with violence and hooliganism and, the upper-middle classes aside, the football fan is particularly stupid - add the Northern man's penchant for violence and mis-directed self-loathing and it is a dangerous mix.

Crap. Replace northern with 'Yorkshire' and you may be closer to the truth (I've lived and worked there as well).... This is hardly a north/south thing is it....think of Millwall.

However, I have to say that of all the away grounds I've been to, Elland Road is the most unpleasant experience. Home fans and stewards are openly hostile.

Compare it to Derby a fortnight ago when I saw loads of families present, a good atmosphere, some light hearted banter. Leeds will deserve what's coming to them and that prat Warnock for his ill thought comments this evening.

Are you seriously suggesting that all "Northern People" associate sport with violence/hooliganism? Isn't the idiot in question from Cheltenham?

Leeds fans rip up seats, attack an opposition player and sing sing abusive songs - imagine my surprise. Wednesday fans dont exactly cover themselves in glory either with their Turkey chants.

Id expect more policing for their section for their game down here now.

Went to Leeds once, wouldnt ever go back. Was sat in a pub on a saturday afternoon about 4pm when a drunken woman starts chucking pitchers and ashtrays around the place. We left and on the walk back to my friends see a passed out tramp having his chest shaved by another tramp. This was in the day, wouldnt like to see it at night. No wonder such a filthy place has such vile fans.

Two awesome posts lads... One with an anti northern flavour, the other clearly batting on the side of the Lancs in the war of the roses!

What happened this eve was very shameful for Leeds Utd, but to tarnish or as a 'Northern' problem, then a problem with 'Yorkshire' people is a bit juvenile at best.

I hope they're punished properly and have a good look at themselves. Likewise I hope some in here engage their brains prior to posting such shite!

Not quite the same, as trouble follows Leeds around, but yes.

If you ran on the pitch and cost us the game and fans being banned, there would be plenty who would track you down, and kick the abolsute shit out of you. Doubt if you or anyone else would do it again. You only had to look at the reaction he got going into the crowd. He was a hero. f***ing wankers the lot of them.

I'd like to think if you did that, you wouldn't make it out of the stand without your own supporter giving you a good f***ing hiding and then handing whats left to the police. Leeds didn't do that, so yes, they deserve to be banned from away grounds.

Where's the video of Warnock saying Kirkland 'went down like a ton of bricks'?

Don't have the video off sky yet but here's what he said:

Leeds United manager Neil Warnock on Sky Sports: "I feel embarassed today seeing that. That was an absolute disgrace, they should put the guy in prison.

"Kirkland went down like a tonne of bricks, but that doesn't matter. That has spoilt everything for everybody.

"I am not proud to be Leeds manager when I see things like that. It has been difficult for the referee, but there is no place for that on the field of play.

"I am very sorry for that, but I thought it was a great point. I felt all the fans were great except one moron."

Edit: woops I lied; here's the video! Neil Warnock: Jail Leeds fan who assaulted Wednesday's Chris Kirkland | Leeds United News, Fixtures, Results, Transfers | Sky Sports

Brighton factually.....
If this was Brighton it would be just one rogue idiot but because its Leeds we're all scum?

If you read the whole thread fella , you will notice like your club we have narrow minded idiots and sensible fans too. Lets not look for a fight on a Brighton message board at 5am on your first post.

Soon after your scum could be heard singing 'We're Leeds, and we're proud of it'. So to answer your question, yes.

Warnock had a point, whether you like it or not. The falla that did it needs prison but kirkland made a meal of it.

Even if he did (and I'm not sure I agree), it us utterly irrelevant to the incident. Just came across as Warnock trying to either deflect the blame or somehow make light of it. Both of which are fairy reprehensible/irresponsible

Once again SWFC found wanting when it comes to putting on and safely managing a football match. The Leeds fans need taking to task, but so do SWFC. The stewarding and policing looked pathetic; it's not rocket science to work out if you fill both decks of Leppings Lane with Leeds fans in a Yorkshire Derby you are going to have your hands full. Why not just sell tickets for the top deck, as with pretty much all other visitors? Nothing to do with money,I don't suppose?

Quite; let's not tarnish the whole county. I think there is a different culture in big city northern towns but let's be honest, life's a bit tougher there, and has been for decades, than the majority of where we live in Sussex. Personally I think North Yorkshire is the best place in the country, the people are really nice and friendly too.
