I see the poppy nazi's are out early this year.
And the Grammar Police - what in heaven's name is that apostrophe doing there?
I see the poppy nazi's are out early this year.
Perhaps you should say this to James Mclean ?,,,,
Demonising them in the past - fair enough.
My point was about demonising people Now for things that happened years ago when it might be more constructive to put it behind us.
And I well understand that many people - maybe even the majority - would disagree with that point of view. I can cope with that.
Definition of demonising': 'portray as wicked or threatening'.
You post about not wanting to demonise terrorists who blow up people in shopping centres and Remembrance Services?
I think, in the circumstances, you got off lightly with just being told where to stick that opinion. If you're going to have opinions like that and in a thread like this then what do you expect?
What are you wittering on about?A thread like this? Should we all join in with the OP then and have a pop at the Irishman?

This is a thread about poppies and Remembrance Sunday. DiS thinks we shouldn't now refer to terrorists who blew up people at a town's Remembrance Sunday parade as wicked or threatening. I think his opinion stinks and told him so.
You can say what you like as far as I'm concerned.
In my humble opinion it was a thread started to have a pop at an Irishman for not wearing a poppy.
Yes...and thread topics develop. Personally, I've no problem with Mclean not wearing a poppy. I note his morals are strangely reconciled with disliking what the British represent so much that he has to turn his back on the flag/anthem yet he's happy living here and earning lots of money. A cynic might point to the money being a huge factor and just for today I'll be that cynic.
I do however have greater issues with being told that I should no longer regard the people who blew up 4 year olds in shopping centres and nurses at Remembrance Parades as evil *******s. It's great that there is a sort of peace in Ulster and if the power-sharing is the heavy price to be paid then so be it but my utter contempt for those that murdered innocent people doesn't diminish just because of the longevity. Given that the PSNI has very recently admitted that the IRA still exists and that it's heavily implicated in the fatal shooting of someone this year then it would seem that they haven't gone away, haven't stopped killing people nor handed over all their arms. So I'm going to keep on thinking they are murderous scum.
Freedom of speech/expression innit. Something not valued by those with a vested interested in getting people outraged and offended by everything. It's his right not to wear one but it's extremely boring that he makes it about him every year.
It'll be the only thing he'll ever be remembered for in his mediocre career.
Does he make it about him ? Or is there a tedious social media + media pile on every time ?It's his right not to wear one but it's extremely boring that he makes it about him every year.

Well he could have just not worn the poppy and stood in line along with his team mates like any other silence.Does he make it about him ? Or is there a tedious social media + media pile on every time ?
Ponce one? How appropriate.I don’t think I’ve ever worn a poppy.
If I could ponce a free one maybe ?
Reading the article, it would have been far easier and less noticeable if he'd just stayed by the dugout, even in the tunnel and gone out when the minutes silence had finishedWell he could have just not worn the poppy and stood in line along with his team mates like any other silence.
Instead he chose to separate himself which IMO did make it all about him.
Anyway his career is almost over and he can piss off into oblivion.
Indeed, like bouncing 9 year old threads to stir the story up again.Does he make it about him ? Or is there a tedious social media + media pile on every time ?
