Totally money raising...No cost of product.

Oxfam do sell items though.

How much do you think a poppy costs to make though? It cannot be more than a couple of pence.

My concerns with the RBL is that their control of overheads is poor.

They don't seem to like those who have fought and who don't toe the party line either.

With all due respect, up yours too.

Well fvcking listen to yourself , you're mentioning the Birmingham pub bombings and you're whining about demonising the *******s that did it, we all know that there are bitter pills to swallow for the sake of peace , but give it a rest for once eh ?

It wasn't me who started getting abusive............

And I wasn't aware I was "whining" either - just expressing an opinion, which I didn't expect to be universally popular anyway. Each to his own.

Definition of demonising': 'portray as wicked or threatening'.

You post about not wanting to demonise terrorists who blow up people in shopping centres and Remembrance Services?

I think, in the circumstances, you got off lightly with just being told where to stick that opinion. If you're going to have opinions like that and in a thread like this then what do you expect?

This.

Completely the wrong thread to have that opinion.

Demonising them in the past - fair enough.

My point was about demonising people Now for things that happened years ago when it might be more constructive to put it behind us.

And I well understand that many people - maybe even the majority - would disagree with that point of view. I can cope with that.

Some people may have been left with a bitter pill to swallow with the Friday agreement, and I can understand the bitter taste to people like bushy who served in NI, and families of the people killed, and the people maimed. Having said that, I think for most people it was a blessed relief rather than a feeling of bitterness.

I think that the ire against those who choose not to wear a symbol that, for whatever reason, they disagree with is addressing the wrong target. Those people have opinions which are no less valid than those of us that do wear the poppy. Surely that was one of the points of fighting fascism. Its an uncomfortable truth, but the only way to peace is to comprimise with enemies. Mandela knew this and #Davidin Southampton seems only to be reiterating what Mandela said about having to work with your enemy if you want peace.

My annoyance with the business comes from the national watering down of remembrance. The remembrance should be key. Whether you are remembering military heroes, family members, victims of war or terrorism, or those poor sods who were shoved into the front line through no choice of their own. It is the remembrance of the cost of war to all of us rather than the symbols that needs to be foremost.

It started as 11:11 on the 11/11 and everything stopped. It was moved to Sunday, presumably because that's more convenient to work and business, but this now means that most people are sat at home or in bed and miss it altogether. I take my family to the remembrance service at the memorial in our town every year and the traffic is not diverted, merely halted for the two minutes. Yet on Saturday evenings between October and December at towns all throughout Sussex its not too much trouble to divert traffic and close roads to allow bonfire societies to parade. This annual remembrance seems to have more meaning than any of our public holidays, but it has been shoved away to Sunday morning. The whole event needs to be given more prominence and importance. In a country full of people from different backgrounds the message needs to be let's make time to remember the effects of war and terrorism and this seems far more important than arguing about the symbols that each of us chooses to express our remembrance.

I know you do, but I know it grates on you a bit, from the pictures you have posted (For the sake of peace). Its still a relief though. At the end of the day, most wars end with people talking and comprimising.
