There have always been civilian casualties in war as well as military ones. It would be equally valid for people of all nations to refuse to commemorate the war dead because a few of them got things wrong and killed the wrong people.

The problem McLean has is that he is pretty clearly a supporter of the IRA. Or if he isn't, then he makes a pretty poor attempt to oppose their policies. Whatever the faults of the Army and RUC in Northern Ireland, even the blindest of Irish patriots must accept that the IRA did some pretty appalling things. McLean only ever seems to criticise one side. That's why he gets singled out.

It's the negative evidence that he doesn't seem to post against the IRA, though I accept I might have missed it. He isn't just talking about Bloody Sunday, he is talking about other alleged atrocities carried out by the Army, but he doesn't mention the multiple atrocities carried out by the other side as well. I would expect someone who is neutral on the subject of IRA v Army to mention both sides, even in a Remembrance Day post.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe he does disapprove of the IRA's deliberate murders as much as he disapproves of Bloody Sunday.

In fairness, there are plenty on the opposing side, who don't criticise the British governments actions either.

People fought wars to allow others freedoms, an important one is freedom of expression, seems he’s exercising his, good for him, you don’t have to agree with him, we live in a democracy thanks to past sacrifices.
