Yep will keep the historic Countys map for future reference just to remind people the real countys they live in, rather than see regular maps of the Marxist countys like Greater Manchester, West Midlands, East Sussex etc.

Best of luck in your claim for Nottinghamshire.

South Yorkshire has existed since 1974 and is a admin and ceremonial county! North Notts does not exist.

I really must leave this alone, otherwise my blood pressure will go off the scale - no wonder I can't sleep!

South Yorkshire is NOT an administrative County. It ceasced to exist in 1996 when the Unitary Authorities of Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham & Barnsley took over responsibility for all areas of local government. The only county-wide admin functions that are left are the South Yorkshire Pensions Authority & the Civil Contingencies people.

South Yorkshire still exists as far as postal addresses is concerned & does indeed have a Lord Lieutenant, as it would be too expensive to have one of those & deputies for all the Unitary Authorities

Calm down, calm down! Of all the controversies and dipstick posts on NSC, your blood pressure is raised by inaccuracies in the administrative processes of South Yorkshire! If I didn't know you, I'd guess you were a bespectacled geek with a Local Govt. Almanack tucked under his arm (last spoke to you in a hurried moment in the subways under Doncaster station, I recall),
But as the fine details seem that important, are you sure that the Civil Contingencies body administers the SYPTE? Now, that's something to keep you awake!

Good grief, I forgot the SYPTE! Now that's where living oop north comes into its own - a body that thinks transport systems should be integrated, not like the profit or nothing arrangements down here!

Gek yes, glasses yes, Local Govt no, His Arm, no.

If the meeting took place in the subway under Docaster Station on the way home from a game, then I was pissed.

Yep, I can remember riding the bus in Sheffield for 7p (adult fare) in the early 80s, and I think the fare to Donny was only about 20p.
The "meeting" was years ago, we were both running for different trains and as we crossed I said "are you from Barnsley" and you (or some complete stranger) replied "yes!". It may have been Sheffield, athough I'm not sure it has any subways.

It must have been years ago, I left the husband in Barnsley 4 years ago! and it would have been Donny, as you are right, Sheffield station does not have any subways, owing to the river running beneath the station, but that's another of my specialised subjects:yawn:

Then I look forward possibly to seeing you on Mastermind, answering questions on the subterranean aqueous impediments in the construction of the South Yorkshire railway infrastructure. How's the General Knowledge?

I'll take Clackmannanshire... well at least Clackmannnanshire North West... before those tramps from Sauchie and Tullibody (South and East splitters) try to muscle in on my manor! ... Indeed many months hence M'Lord Bracknell  bequithed to me the Wee County.. so ... claimed! ;)

For those that have wondered where Clackmannanshire is .... the Wee County can be spotted between Fife, Stirlingshire and Perthshire . "Look aboot ye"... "It's bigger than you think" (er no it isn't Mr Council-slogan-inventor!)
