A real indictment of the FA's failure to run English football in a way that will EVER deliver a world class coach.

And now Scolari is expected to weave his magic on a squad of players who themselves are the product of the FA's failure to run English football effectively.

I guess the fans will carry on dreaming of luck and glory. But anyone can see that there is something fundamentally useless at the heart of English football.

Bunch of mummies boys.

I'm liking him more by the minute :clap2: Any chance we can get him to deck one or two politicians as well ?

Bet he wants the 5 million a year like Sven......

And i bet they dont offer him that much.......

Im going of this appointment by the hour actually, he won the world cup with Brazil....yes but who hasnt in the last 50 years....any half decent manager could do it, and as for Portugal, they were the host nation.....

Im not quite sure about it now.....

Can't see language being a problem , he would have had a few meetings/interviews with the FA so far , so i am assuming he can come across as articulate enough , unless Brian Barwick conducted the interviews in Portugese !

And in any case the possibilities of him being referred to as a brazilian c*nt if things go wrong sre too good to ignore :lolol:

Great choice in my opinion. Done it at the HIGHEST level, tactically brilliant and not afraid to drop/sub big name players who aren't producing. Likes to play attacking football and his English is perfectly fine. He's the best man for the job by a "country" mile.

Out of all the candidates at least Big Phil has actually won trophies and achieved things in the international arena. I feel the lack of experience at international level of the other candidates was a problem especially with the pressure on an English manager from the English press & media.

So what if he isn't English?! No-one seems to be bothered by the hordes of foreign managers in the domestic game. the players who go out to represent England are the only ones in my opinion that need to be English.

And one thing that Scolari has bags of and that is passion and commitment. Reportedly, all the teams that have played under him have given him 100% support from the dressing room and a fiercely loyal to him.

The thought of Scolari bringing some of the positive South American influence with him would seem to me to be ideal given our current crop of young players coming through.

I reckon team him up with Stuart Pearce who is similarly passionate and loyal and we could be in for some exciting football in the next few years.

When did you last see Sven going apoplectic on the touchline and immersing himself in his teams performance??

If Scolari can learn English, then I think he'll be fine. If he cant speak a word then it could well turn into a problem. When things dont go so well, players look for excuses and you can bet your bottom dollar that they will blame communication etc.

I just thinks its an indication of how poor English managers are looked upon. I dont think the FA are totally to blame for this. The top sides themselves simply wont look at an English manager. All of them are not interested in the likes of Curbishly etc.

Also how can Curbishly, Pearce etc get a chance to manage a big club until the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Aresnal etc take a gamble on them. Managing Charlton etc is not gonna sway the FA. No matter how good your managerial skills are, you wont be able to test them to the hilt whilst you are managing also rans who will never be champions.

So if Arsenal wont take a gamble, why should the FA.

If I were Curbishley, Pearce, Peter Taylor I would go abroad and manage. Its the only answer

I know who I prefer.

As simple as that.....

An English assistant would be nice, perhaps with an eye to grooming them as the next manager, but I really dont see that any English manager has the credentials of Scolari.

If he does take it I will be interested to see who he will have in his backroom team.

it is nonsense we need an english manager to lead the english national team. the best man available should get the job.

the people that complain about a foreign manager in charge are probably those people who go to an IRISH BAR to drink BELGIAN beer, then go out for an INDIAN curry, or a CHINESE after. They then drive home in their GERMAN car, then get home to sit on their SWEDISH furnitue, and watch an AMERICAN show on their JAPANESE tv

He picks his way through a few lines of broken english, and its siezed upon like some kind of diamond-encrusted pearl of wisdom from the heavens. Most of us were fooled into thinking Sven was some kind of softly-spoken GENIUS at first, until it eventually dawned that actually, the guy says absolutely f***-all and we were all reading FAR too much into his supposed talent as a coach.

I don't mind a foreign coach. But someone who is at least fluent in english would be a start.

What he said (apart from the bit about not minding a foreign coach)
