Its a shame it isn't someone home grown, whether the FA doesn't consider anyone suitable or good enough, or whether no-one will make themselves available (I doubt), either way its sad... happens all over the world but the players must be born and bred so why not the manager?

Bobby Robson couldn't speak spanish when he managed Barca. He coped alright.

I do share that concern which was why I favoured Hiddink in the beginning. That said, I'm sure players will soon get the idea of what he wants when they are sat on the bench or hauled off at half time.

That's the biggest positive for me, this guy is a real decision maker and can respond to what is actually going on DURING a game.

Although big Guus was my first choice, I think this is a very good choice. Once the language issue is overcome I will feel very good about Euro '08.

A real indictment of the FA's failure to run English football in a way that will EVER deliver a world class coach.

And now Scolari is expected to weave his magic on a squad of players who themselves are the product of the FA's failure to run English football effectively.

I guess the fans will carry on dreaming of luck and glory. But anyone can see that there is something fundamentally useless at the heart of English football.

Amen to that. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

He had MOURINHO translating for him though...

I certainly agree with that. No more "frozen rabbit in the headlights" syndrome, staring blankly into space while all around collapses. Just a shame we couldn't have got this fella in immediately after qualification was secured last year.

I'm sure Big Phil will get himself a decent translator, maybe Maurinho would be up for a big of part time work on the side?

Mourinho's gargantuan ego would never allow him to go to the World Cup merely as a translator. He'd end up trying to take over, and Big Phil would then have to kill him.

Yeah but how many World Cups have England won in your lifetime? National pride has to go out the window and it must be the perceived 'best man for the job' if we're ever going to win another one before we're all dead.

:)

Thats a great choice. I am of the mind of having an England coach but as they are all utter gash , Scolari is the best choice the fa could have made. Scolari will make us realise what an utter waste of space and cure for insomnia that Swede twerp Ericson really was/is.

What, like Frank Lampard?

That'll be the Frank Lampard that was educated at Brentwood school and has an A* at Latin GCSE, amongst other things.

Im with you on that, Hiddink was my choice all along out of the foreign options, as he could speak English.

However, provided Scolari can speak some English and has an English assistant, he should be fine.
