Did you know that Putin is a good man, a kind man? That he can't be truly happy until all his soldiers return from the front to their mothers and wives?

If you can stomach it, watch this tearful praise of Putin's conference. It is full of messages the Kremlin wants the Russian people to hear.

I can't stomach it, but thanks for the summary 😎

I think all NATO countries should increase their defense spend to above 3%, above 4 even, but don't spend it on US manufactured weaponry or components if the US will maintain a veto on usage!!

I've just watched the first few minutes. Chilling isn't it, especially...."what demographic crisis? we just gained ten million people" that should chill every European to the bone.

Does anyone know what it might cost us to get to 5% GDP as contributions in to Nato?

What it might mean in terms of income tax?

I for one, would be prepared for all working people to pay extra income tax to pay for it. ;)
In Estonia we already are at 3% gdp. But starting July 1st 2025 we will have a new additiobal 2% income tax just for national defence. Of course it's more to pay but I think it's necessary

All we need to do is reduce our GDP to the point where our current arms spend represents 5%.

That’ll keep The Donald happy.

We'll have to disagree here. You can't be yelling America help us!!! and then be shocked when America asks you to do your bit.
America learnt the hard lesson about what happens if you turn your back on the world and decide to not get involved 83 years ago this month, you’d have hoped they’d learnt the lesson given the amount of blood it paid

But they haven't turned their back on the world, wasn't it posted a page or two ago that trump says he will keep funding Ukraine? Or did I mis read that? I thought the article said trump will fund Ukraine, and then said NATO countries need to increase military spending, and that has set a lot of you off for reasons that will always be a mystery to me. Or I've entirely misread the story (which I've been known to do)

Because the obvious subtext is “because if you don’t America won’t come to your aid”.

Firstly, we're not asking America to help us. We haven't been invaded, Ukraine has.
Secondly, we are doing our bit. The suggestion I was replying to was not Trump asking us to do our bit, it was Trump asking us to pay 5% while they pay 3.4%.

It's not that I can't stomach it, it's just that I find it boring.

OK point taken. You find it boring, and Raymondo can't stomach it. I will try to select the Russian state TV more carefully. Or I may not post it, and just highlight the interesting bits.

I know I've said this before, but Russian state TV can be a goldmine, as it can provide a glimpse into Kremlin thinking that you don't get elsewhere. For instance, for the second time recently, Margarita Simonyan has eulogised about Putin. Why is she doing that? Have they heard rumblings of discontent? Then, towards the end, the fat bloke speaks through tears about Putin's love for his country. They are advising the Russian people how to behave.

I would suggest that they wouldn't be doing this, if the Kremlin was not concerned about the rise of dissent. Or, to take it a stage further, the rebellion that Paul Warburg speaks of.

Wo down there Eric, I'm not complaining at you for posting stuff. I don't expect you to make sure every single link is going to satisfy every one of us 100%. I'm just saying I didn't really like that one, that's all.

And yes I agree that you can learn from their reports. If they're telling us that Putin is great and loves everyone, then they must be aware that people think the opposite.
