No offence meant to the contributors, but I think they're just invested enthusiasts like me :)
well with lots of research and detailed information posted on this thread by the ‘enthusiasts’ along with lots of intelligent commentary, in my book, compared to people like me (that wouldn’t recognise a type of missile if it hit me on the nose or have any idea whatsoever what the theatre of war between Russia and Ukraine looks like on the ground), that makes the few regular contributors on this thread the NSC ‘experts’ on the topic.

Ive tried to follow some of the discussion at times but have got bogged down in the detail tbh.

Don’t take offence, take it as a compliment or at least a reflection of my shameful ignorance/lack of enthusiasm.😉

Don’t take offence

I'm sure no one was taking offence, I'm just teasing, as I'm sure none of the posters consider themselves an expert (although I know a couple have good inside knowledge of life on the ground in Ukraine, and might be considered experts in that area).

The only thing I would take offence at is if someone new joined the thread and proposed a peace deal that rewarded Russia in some way or left Russia the chance to rest up and go again.

I'd take offence whether they're new or old

same old same old from the bunker dwarfs propagandists......... good reply from Dr Fred Hoffman

Russia understands social media possibly better than any other nation. There’s a reason all these videos have English subtitles, let’s put it that way.

Dr Hoffman says: The question is, do Western leaders have the intestinal fortitude to look evil in the face and say, "No, you're NOT getting your way in Ukraine."

Surely we already know the answer. Russia is making the same threats that it's been making for over 2 years, and the West has ignored them every single time, and will continue to ignore them.

No one can believe these empty threats, it's embarrassing.

Possibly. But even (or especially) the Russian high command realises that if this does happen (heaven forbid), a few minutes later - or a few hours at most - either Moscow or St. Petersburg will cease to exist.
There's a reason nuclear weapons are called a deterrent.

This is why they’re so desperate for sanctions to be eased (which there hasn’t been even a whisper of), they know they’re here to stay and will ultimately cripple them. They also know they can’t hide it from the public like they can battlefield losses, people will notice their potatoes are more expensive.

Putin is an evil POS, but he’s not unhinged. He has no more desire to crawl out from the radioactive rubble and try and start a subsistence farm than anyone else.

Plus I still do believe that if the scenario became likely, someone in the Russian chain of command has a pistol and bullet saved for the right moment. Every nation’s security services will ultimately have a “how do we get rid of this bastard before he kills the lot of us” policy. Be they based in Moscow, Washington, Beijing, London or anywhere else.

The nuclear response may not be a missile but an attack on one of the four nuclear power plants.
I don't think they will do that. I confess to s**ting myself when they attacked Zaporizhzhia & were threatening to cut power to it. How were they going to cool the reactors etc. I know someone who is actually an 'expert' in the nuclear power industry. He said a load of stuff that I didn't understand, but was reassuring! :lolol:

One of Russia's biggest nuclear power plants is in Kursk. So Russia have Zaporizhzhia, but Ukraine have now entered Kursk & I suspect with no evidence at all, that that nuclear power station is one of the reasons why. It makes sense in my head anyway! 🤔

Books I have found really helpful in understanding the current situation.
Thanks for helping with my christmas present list - I’ve read a couple of them, but not all. Currently reading Midnight in Moscow by John Sullivan, the US Ambassador in Moscow in the years leading up to and including the start of the invasion (sorry SMO). I’m not very far into it but it gives an interesting insight into what it was like working for Trump and the exceptional challenges for foreign diplomats in Russia.

West is BEST
Putin will no more launch a nuke than I would go up and punch Tyson Fury in the klonkers.

And for exactly the same reason; the instant retaliation would leave me but a stain on the ground where I once stood.

Everything in Russia looks great (the video is far too long, but you can just click through to see Muscovites busily enjoying life):

So the only reason you wouldn't punch a stranger in the nads is because they're big/powerful and would beat you to a pulp?

Interesting……..are you sure in the real world these crippling sanctions you speak of are genuinely crippling them?

Thankfully for the good burghers here in Blighty we can all nonchalantly turn up our heating when it gets cold and pay little notice to the price of food in the shops.

Hasta la Victoria siempere isn’t it?

That's a good article and more needs to be done to stop the oligarchs, but are you seriously suggesting that the sanctions are doing nothing and Russia's economy is all fine and dandy?

Check out the Moex today, for a snapshot of how Russia's finest companies are doing.

If you think the sanctions aren't working, go ahead and fill your boots. Snap up all those bargain shares.

Let us know how you get on.
