Landsbergis understands Russia, and says it how it is:

It is not for Nato, the EU or anyone else to decide Ukraine’s strategy to defeat Russia, Gabrielius Landsbergis, Lithuania’s foreign minister, said on his way into the Nato meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels.
“We have to assist their strategy. Our strategy has to be Russia losing; for the last time losing in this neighbourhood,” he said, adding that Ukraine had shown how successful it was at “pushing back the Russians”.
Landsbergis said failure to supply Ukraine with enough ammunition was not an option as the consequences would be more wars in Europe.
“If Ukraine is forced to stop for one or the other reason, because it’s not … getting enough weapons, ammunition, technological breakthrough, then it’s our choice. This is our choice … And then we will just have to just start the clock for the next conflict,” he told reporters.

…and yet Russians yearn for the return of the Soviet Union. The west needs to stand firm and not believe a single word spoken by anyone in that regime.

I think you are misinterpreting Putin's intentions.

His '8 or more' children has nothing to do with the sanctity of human life. Quite the opposite in fact.
It is all about animal husbandry; a breeding programme to provide sufficient cannon fodder for future wars.

Neither were the Russians evidently. What an extraordinary statement of intent this is.

For context, the distance from Chelyabinsk to Severomuysk is 4000 km. Chelyabinsk (where the tank engine factory was blown up a few days ago) is itself 1800 km east of Moscow. How on earth did Ukraine manage it? What route did they take? Through Russia? Or some other route? Did they have help?

I read somewhere a few weeks ago that Ukraine, being in what is for them, an existential war, are aiming high and seeking regime change in Moscow. One of their objectives is to foment unrest in Russia, to show Russians that Putin cannot protect them. Could it be that Ukraine has help from friendly partisans in Russia's ethnic regions?
