Some of you have apparantly been posting messages of truth as reviews on google maps - an excellent idea. Someone even posted 'instructions' on NSC how to do it. However, such instruction were of no more use to me than a foreign language like 'clear your cache' or 'switch off your VPN'. Might as well be Chinese!

So, for a bit of practical help in spreading the truth to Russians using MacDonalds, can somebody set out simple instructions to set up a new (anonymous) Google account? Thank you.

HMG has done nothing positive to your knowledge then? nothing at all? blimey

Quite a few posts on Twitter (amongst the majority celebrating) saying this isn’t true and is a result of an account being hacked……..difficult to know what to believe at the moment.
Not sure that any Russian officer that senior would find himself in bullet range of danger ? I would like to think it's true as an officer is a legitimate target in a war rather than an elected President.

Putin now having to scrape round for reinforcements and is sending his really ancient "museum pieces" to Ukraine.

Honestly there is no way this invasion goes beyond Ukraine for now.

Not impressed with the response from UK and USA on this.

At what point do we do anything?

It looks to me like we will do nothing (having said we would do nothing).

Putin has won, has he not?
There is still a huge reluctance to escalate by putting " Boots on the ground " as we know Putin is unhinged and his response could be brutal.

However, there is a point, unknown as yet, when an atrocity so bad is committed that a government is forced to act in support of Ukraine. That might be the watershed moment and you might see a rapid domino effect of countries taking up arms.

I notice that the Polish Ambassador is refusing to leave Kyiv, would his death or injury at the hands of the Russians constitute the international incident that would trigger the above I wonder ?

I have from the start of the invasion, had a feeling Poland will be dragged into this and more than likely willingly to help their cousins across the border.

Did the Russians not actually attempt to start a nuclear war yesterday and last night targeting a nuclear power plant.
Surely that’s a clear and present danger showing their intent, win at any means.
Waiting for them to press the button first, is the only conscious option, but NATO must have grounds to go in after an attack with the intent for massive casualties of a nuclear plant….

Can someone explain to me if I’m wrong about that, genuine question.

So just 2 oligarchs sanctioned in the UK since the war started. Yes just 2, or am I missing something?

Nope. We can give ourselves a pat on the back preventing innocent paralympians from competing in a games they'd worked all their lives for most likely with very little funding or support, but we cannot put sanctions on oligarchs who profited directly following the fall of the Soviet Union. Our moral compass is something akin to Jack Sparrow's.

If Putin wants a World War why does he need an excuse? I really hope this posturing is a massive bluff to stop NATO troops on the ground and air in Ukraine

My only positive thought is that it is claimed he has been terrified of getting Covid. Nukes all over the world stands a much better chance of killing him.

Possibly a very naive idea but I don’t think Putin is ready to die just yet.

I’m starting to doubt the whole concept of a ‘Nuclear Deterrent’, it seems everyone is afraid of what he might do but he doesn’t seem to be bothered by what we might do, as HWT said earlier not a good look!!!

The last time the Russians backed down iirc was the Cuban Missile Crisis, regrettably we may need to get to that Defcon state to to deal with this?

My wife did say that. I had "assumed" that big companies would be approached by someone more important than me. Maybe that will be next weeks plan.

Have you approached your local Lions Club ? While normally they support local causes they do often help international causes. A good example is Brighton Lions arranged and paid for an aid convoy shortly after the Bosnia war. My father was president of the club at the time and went with the convoy.

Clubs donate money all the time so it might be worth asking.

Whilst I don’t disagree with you about the oligarchs, I don’t think UK were responsible for banning the athletes, that was an IOC decision made under pressure from most of the other members no?

Going slightly off topic, does anyone else find BBC’s Naga Munchetty both irritating and rude in her interview technique?

We have family near the power plant, and it was being defended by Ukrainian troops - it seems the Russians were attacking and shelling the perimeter, which they had been a few days ago too (unreported on BBC etc). Russians now control the site as far as we know. The shelling was reckless in the extreme, but if they'd wanted to blow it up it's a big and easy target.
Russians now control the small undefended towns to the immediate south of Zaporozhye, as they are the nodes of the road network. Our parents are in a farming village (Russians not interested in the villages at the moment) and Russians are on all sides.
My guess is they are getting ready for an assault on Zaporozhye - we have 8 close relatives there. Zaporozhye has an ENORMOUS hydro electric damn (incredible engineering). If/when Russia takes that they will control a huge% of Ukraine's electricity supply... I believe that'll be the goal, but many will die in the process, and if the damn is breached it'll be a catastrophe....as if they need more

She’s alway been rude imho!

And remaining off topic she is a credible golfer playing off nine apparently!

No, not at all quite the opposite in fact…

Her interview yesterday with the tennis player who left his wife and children in I think Belgium and is now in Kiev in the reserve army, was excellent, moving and poignant, she was visibly shaken and emotional after it, as was he check it out.

Anita Clifford, a London-based lawyer who specialises in financial crime, said while there was a low threshold for the designation of sanctions, it still required a proper dossier of evidence or it could be challenged in court, and the government could be sued for large sums.

yes we can change the law, and being looked at, how far do we go? not sure if those abroad are having their assets seized without compensation, or frozen and will be returned to them once this is over.

I actually agree with a lot of what he says, but there is a time and a place. Bit like having an argument with a relative in hospital or something like that.

Humanity first, ideology and history lessons later. A young child being passed over to crowds to be put onto a train isn't interested in the undeniable mistakes and sometimes dodgy views of Churchill.

.. and neither should they be.

Yep. The thread ban was issued not because of his views but because this thread is just the wrong place to air them. If you want to discuss the rights and wrongs of British history, create a thread to do just that.
