What I think is odd is that it's not easier. It would be a lot easier for the US to back Ukraine and make it clear to Russia that they can't win, and get them to agree to a ceasefire. But how on earth is Trump going to convince Ukraine to surrender? His choice doesn't seem like the easy option, it just seems like the stupid/corrupt option.

If Zelenskiy doesn't give the US what they want, then the US may immediately withdraw support.
Europe may stand firm with their support, knowing that if Ukraine is supported for long enough then Russia will eventually collapse economically.
BUT the US is very likely to lash out - Trump won't walk away from it. He'll lift all sanctions on Russia. Then he'll pressure Europe to drop sanctions,and will use tarifs to that effect.

I think you need to have an X/Twitter account and be signed into it.
I've noticed that sometimes (not just today), I can open tweets on my phone but not my laptop. I sign in to X/Twitter with my Gmail account, and suddenly they open up.
I could be completely wrong of course.
