The gloves are off for the EU when it comes to Putin. They know he’s trying to break the EU so any lapdog in one the EU member countries isn’t going to get any slack. Slovakia and Hungary know this as they also know that the money train has ended from Putin.

The arrest of the Welsh leader of Reform for corruption and spouting pre Putin propaganda will have many across Europe very nervous. It‘s no surprise that the right wing groups in Europe have suddenly become very quiet in the realisation that any Putin links are going to be investigated. Farage for instance has been very, very quiet …. It makes you wonder……
My personal opinion is that it is 100% nailed on that Farage is on the Kremlin payroll.

Brexit would have absolutely been front and centre of Putin's hybrid war to divide Europe. And it worked of course. It split the UK, and the EU, taking attention away from Russian activity elsewhere. Russia had it sown up. Bot farms fomenting unrest, promoting racism and bigotry, funding the far right, and encouraging migration and refugee flows. The routes are extended across Europe for maximum disruption (e.g. Syria to Germany to UK).

The UK defence industry particularly BAE Systems are entrenched in a lot of defence contracts across Europe and this will not change, including significant subsidiaries and partnerships across Europe, BAE Sweden and Rheinmetall BAE Systems are significant player in the world arms industry.

The biggest challenge will be decoupling the European arms manufactures from the USA this is complex and will not stop over night no matter what Trump states publicly
Regulars can look away, as I'm going to be repeating myself.

In 1986/87, I worked at BAe in Stevenage, at a huge site alongside the A1. In my induction, I was warned about Russians who used to drive up from the Russian embassy in London, and hang about in the pubs outside the gates, hoping to hear something of interest.

Today, nearly 40 years later, we can see that the Russians haven't changed. In fact they've got worse and far more effective, in their hybrid war against the west.

Rumoured here that weaponry supplies to Ukraine have been restored...I haven't read it elsewhere though.

Interview is with ex General Breedlove, pro Ukraine, and says sanctions MUST be maintained against Russia for the long term to ensure they don't break any ceasefire. Given Trump's rhetoric, I the the general is going to be disappointed.

Hope this analysis is right

Thank you so very much for posting that @CHAPPERS the Prof explains it perfectly. His link at the end to Vance ("the intelligent gerbil,") is as scary as I thought it would be - dictatorship coming to America if they don't wake the f up.
Thanks again.
I urge fellow posters to watch the video.
Another one to read up on is historian Professor Heather Cox Richardson. She is at Boston College and started writing about Donald Trump when he was impeached in 2019.

I frequent a few Naval sites and the number of Trump/farage twats was disappointing, especially those who wanted a Trump in the UK. The silence is now deafening as they realise what’s a foot. A surprising number are now all for a European force. The irony is lost on many of them.

Trump now threatening more sanctions on Russia following the latest bombing. Making it up as he goes along.

Maybe this could be a good thing - as he might see that Russia / Putin has no intention of ceasing fire or wanting peace?

I like these practical moves - needs must.
The excellent speech by that French senator two days back...he said he wanted the UK involved heavily in all European defense stuff.
I hadn't fully appreciated until now the extent of our Armed Forces' superiority, compared to our European brethren...apart from France no-one comes near. This is despite our relative lack of investment over the past 15 years or so.

Did anyone notice?

'Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely "pounding" Ukraine on the battlefield right now......'

He is perpetuating the narrative that Ukraine is losing the war. The very narrative that Zelensky corrected him on in the Oval Office.

But Russia is pounding Ukrainian civilian targets, not military targets. Bombing apartment blocks, hotels and hospitals is certainly brutal, but it isn't strategically effective.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, and it was just Trump being clumsy. Yes, that'll be it.

Yes, I can confirm that.
