I don't really like Russell Brand, but I can't condemn him for fighting for causes he believes in just because he's rich, even if that puts him in some seemingly hypocritical positions - hard to avoid, you would think. I don't have sympathy for the banker either - he doesn't seem to understand what RBS has done to the wider economy, and the three people I know who work for RBS all live in very, very expensive houses, despite being mere accountants - a job which should be well-paid (in my opinion - I am one ), but not that well paid. The banker has written it very well though - not surprised it's reaching a wide audience. Find his attitude somewhat blinkered though. I'm a bit of a moaner, aren't I?

I've just finished reading the first chapter of Brand's book and it's brilliant stuff. He's a transformed guy for sure, wouldn't have given him the time of day as little as a couple of years ago.

Why is he just encouraging people not to vote, when surely be should be encouraging people to vote Green?

For someone who is promoting change he is actually diluting the agenda and doing more harm than good.

Russell Brand has been doing some fantastic work over the last year or so. In particular I've been impressed with his efforts to change our failing drug policy, making a huge difference for working class people including firefighters and people in London who are losing their homes, and also creating awareness about other important issues, particularly inequality.

The support he gave the Focus E15 campaigners in particular impressed me - these are young working class people fighting a rotten Labour council.

I gave up with that blog. For all the inconvenience it gave the blogger something to talk about to his friends and family and got him some publicity so big deal.

As for Russell Brand, I admire his energy. I don't always agree with his political views but I watched his documentary last night on the War On Drugs and think he's onto something. Occasionally, showbiz star with real personality come along and do make a difference - Jamie Oliver has done it with healthy eating in schools, Joanna Lumley with the Gurkhas and I believe Brand could make a difference with drugs policy.

The best thing about it all is it is giving him and his views far more exposure than he could ever muster on his own. Also, he doesnt give a toss what they have to say which is winding them up even more.

It probably wasn't worth sharing, on balance. One person's lunch is frankly irrelevant. I kept thinking there was going to be a punchline, that he was a diabetic or something and Brand's actions in delaying his meal landed him in hospital...but no. Just a load of old bollox.

As said on the #bbcqt thread, I don't like Brand much - call it a pathological dislike of needy attention-seekers - but I do agree with some of what he says. Like so many before him who take on the establishment, their strategy is to undermine and smear rather than win the actual argument.

It is a back-handed compliment because if the establishment (including most of the media) weren't afraid of him, they would ignore him.

No one trusts politics and with the age of the internet we are all a lot wiser to it, but Brand has jumped on the Bandwagon of thinkers who have written his script light years ahead of him. It's all borrowed and mashed together and he his more like Secondhand Brand.

Him telling me that the world and politics is corrupt is preaching to the converted and I don’t need to be told this by someone who has just woken up to it 18 months ago.
