But is he an improvement on a younger full international?
(Sorry edited my previous post).
With respect, my cat is a full Northern Ireland international. Their squad is regularly filled out with players from as low as League Two and many players have played more for their country than in club football due to their young age.

Time will tell if Cashin is any good, but this seems to be a case of McConville not wanting to re-up and us taking whatever we could now, on the very last possible day.

If I had to guess, I’d say his inclusion in post match squads ahead of schedule and minutes in the FA Cup were possibly an attempt to convince him to stay.

Either way, it’s done and Cashin has literally over 100 appearances in the last few seasons. There’s no questions this one is an upgrade in terms of experience.

as things stand yes , read the derby forum

does Mcconville have a higher potential ceiling - time will tell

Cashin is ready for the first team and is signed with that in mind
The Derby forum? 😂😂 Think NSC and players improving when they leave.

Let’s hope you’re right though…… especially after Saturday.

But Cashin has yet to make a full ROI appearance according to his interview, there isn’t a lot of difference and he’s up against Duffy.

The remainder of the post, perhaps, but yes a lot more experience.
Hopefully he has some pace.

No, that's normal. But none of us really know how 'promising' he is.

Some weird comments about the manager though.
Ah yes, nobody moaned after the first couple of months….
He’s learning like everyone, hopefully we can make a more informed judgement after 38 games, it’s not as though we’re bottom.

True but it's more what we were doing that's of concern , was he on the cusp of first team or did we just put him there to sell. If that is the case then who are our development players who will make the grade.
Think we put him there because he was the next in line, fit, CB. Nothing more to it than that.

Good chance at least one CB of Turns, Penman and Simmonds will make it with us (if we can hang on to him) I reckon

Not from the clips I have seen , and looks a bit small to be a defender to me

Simmonds looks very good and a local lad so hopefully we will. I don't watch all the U21s (nor do follow it in detail) but Penman seemed to just appear (AZ will sort me out) . Ed Turns is the one who I thought would go, very good player but older and so thought hadn't made it.

We suddenly seem to have an awful lot of experts on our U21s on this site, and such a coincidence they seem to be the same people bashing Hurzeler on other threads. And I'd expect it wouldn't be hard to find posts from several of them quite happy for Ayari to leave in the summer just gone. I also doubt we'd find the same level of angst about the departures of Offiah, or Samuels, or Taylor Richards, Haydon Roberts and so on. But suddenly McConville has become a poster boy.

Anyway, wish the lad well, a great move for him.

Pretty disrespectful to NI players , they might not be world beaters but they are better than some and to represent your country at any level is a big achievement. NI were winners of the last set of Home Internationals in 1988.

Turns won’t. Big ask from Penman. Which leaves the 17 year old wonderkid.
Suspect we’ll see at least one fairly decent CB come in in the summer.

I thinks it's more what is the u21 set up actually producing and why were we not able to get his contract sorted out.

It’s just accurate.

In their last game they drew 2-2 against Luxembourg. This was their team:

And this was their goalkeeper, Pierce Charles. 19 year old Sheffield Wednesday reserve keeper (backup to our own James Beadle, who isn’t very close to the England senior squad).

You’ll notice his zero professional club games and 4 NI caps.

Go through the entire squad and get similar results many times.

How does anyone know how well Cashin will play in the PL
Like wise a 19 year old with 1 professional appearance … against a championship side

At least Cashin has some good L1 & Championship experience (more so than Dunk had at the same age)

Ed Turns was a more likely candidate to follow Samuels and Peupion out of the door than McConville! He is 22, has already had one and a half seasons of League 1 and 2 experience, and his contract is up in the summer. Although an excellent CM in PL2, it wasn't looking likely he'd break through to the first team - the fact that McConville made the bench ahead of him reinforced that likelihood.
Surprised there hasn't been some development for him - one way or another - this window.

Maybe you need to look up 'angst'. Surprised and disappointed that McConville has gone; Taylor Richards and Hayden Roberts were rightly moved on, fairly and reasonably. They clearly weren't up to the standard to make ot through to the first team with us, and we let them go at a decent level for them to have careers. It seemed strange that Samuels never got loaned out to see how he faired in the big bad world before he was released, but there it is; he's been found a decent job elsewhere - for all the derision spouted on here, playing in the SPL ain't a bad life!
Offiah hasn't left, you know; he's doing very well on loan and it will be interesting to see what we do with him next; another loan to a higher level (with suitable adjustments made to his contract situation) looks a good option - but who knows what the club will decide?
As for Ayari, he had two very unimpressive loans - and neither Coventry or Blackburn supporters had much good to say about him (and I'm being kind there). Of course nobody would have been devastated had he just been moved on in the summer - instead we all had the pleasant surprise that he suddenly blossomed into a very usefu member of the first team. I'm not sure how that part of your critical post justified?
