Personally I would like to have seen him given the chance over the latter part of the season with us.

I'm not saying Europe is out of the question, but realistically I can't see us improving our form enough to maintain a challenge this season for the top 6/7, and we aren't going down. To my mind giving McConville some opportunity over the rest of the season would have made sense especially as we're likely to end up mid-table and we could do with seeing what he has to offer under slightly less pressure.

Not sure whether a loan (if true) down to that level makes any sense.

Don’t think it’s fair on the kid chucking him at the deep end when he’s only played a handful of U21 matches. Give him time.

I was referring to him as being more on the bench as cover, with a few sub appearances from time to time to aclimatise to the 1st team environment, and if he does ok then towards the end of the season he could be given a couple of starts. Not chucking him straight in as an immediate starter.

Sad about this one, more so than any of the other departures this window. Felt like he was going to be the next to break though from the academy to first team.

Maybe he’d indicated he wasn’t willing to wait for a first team opportunity and wouldn’t sign a new contract so we’ve had to sell now rather than lose him for a lower fee in the summer when it’s likely to be set by tribunal.

Surprised about that, thought we'd want to keep and loan him out. I know he's been with us for a few years but it just seems like he's only come to any sort of prominence recently and now suddenly he's gone. Maybe it's just the Northern Ireland call up thing, if he'd been a young, English CB nowhere near getting a cap, then we probably wouldn't have given this any more thought than Ifill or BBB moving on. It probably got us a better fee too.

Few U21's seem to be being moved on.

Blimey! Bit shocked he's gone on a permanent deal but agree with @Joey Jo Jo Jr. Shabadoo must have been stalling on signing another contract.
Watched a lot of McConville in the U21's and he's really developed and grown in presence in the last 18 months. He will have a very good career in the Championship, I will follow his career with interest.
