We’ve been in the bottom 5 for 4 seasons in a row and as it stands, our squad is weaker than last season so I can see why people would tip us for relegation.

Not sure how you make that assessment because over the course of last season there were some significant downs e.g. losing Lamptey & March for over half the season with the latter back in the team. and hopefully Lamptey to follow soon. A significant high was moving Sanchez to first team keeper. Maupay scored 4 in 4 at start and everyone was applauding him then he hit a brick wall. We have lost White and that was a big loss (of potential) in an area where we have good cover. We have brought in an attacking midfielder who scored in his second game. Yes we lost Ali J and Propper but both were bit part players....

IMO keeping Bissouma will be the key.

Not worried. Not been worried since March 2020 - all throughout last season, even when it looked rough in the table, I thought the team played too good football to go down, and I think it will be the case this season as well. Hopeful that the club will manage to reach somewhere around 50 pts.

Does that rule out relegation or a relegation battle? No, but I find it highly unlikely. At least two of the three newcomers should struggle, Southampton is looking increasingly chaotic, bit of a revolution in Palace that could end up in a number of ways, also not sure about Wolves.

Not buying the whole "the squad is no stronger than last season". It is. Brighton got a young squad and young players who train football professionally are going to improve.

Sure, I wasn't saying that I don't expect us to be in the mix, I was just agreeing with Swanny that just because we haven't signed a striker doesn't mean the squad isn't stronger.

True enough, and how the injury cards fall too could have a bigger difference this season, as well as one or two fringe players from last season like Moder who may well hit the ground running this season.

Leap of faith in our forwards for me. I struggle to believe we will miss as many chances as we did last season. As such, I am confident we will finish around 12th or 13th

With Potter at the helm I was always confident we were in with a chance before kick off in every game. And unlike in the previous 35 years of watching the Albion, preceding results would have no bearing, as for ever a couple of crappy defeats and morale would collapse and a new manager would be banded about. After another years Potter coaching and the loss of our 3rd/4th best central defender, I have never been more confident in a season that will be fantastically entertaining and have the potential to see us rise up the table. I can't see us being anywhere near relegation fodder and should we finish 15/16th it'll be a privilege to watch. Of course if we sign the Spaniard and the Uruguayan we will do the double!

Just heard Danny Mills on talksport saying we're one of the favourites to go down because we don't score enough and we've lost Ben White. Natalie Sawyer brought up our expected goals and that we play good football but the overall consensus is we're going to be right down there.

Personally, this is the most confident I've been going into a premier league season with a fully fit squad I think we can get the better of anyone. The other names thrown in the conversation were Southampton, Norwich, Watford, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Burnley.. Surprised Newcastle and possibly even wolves weren't in the conversation if we are.

What have we done to annoy Danny Mills? I think he will predict us every season on the basis that one season, he might be right.

This is it, the potential is there to rise. I have a feeling this season will see something not achieved before, in a good way.

Well said. With Potter we have real hope. Unlike the Hughton PL era we’re taking the game to most teams and dominating. Even against the likes of Liverpool and City. Staggered that some, clearly passionate and genuine Albion fans can’t see this. Ironically it’s the low block teams that caused us the most issues last season. Resolve that and we could potentially be flying.

Of course Ben White will be missed, but it’s not a real “loss” IMO. Genuinely believe we can put out a very strong back line right now even before bringing any additional faces in.

I would like Maupay to have more completion. But even so it’d take some doing to repeat our below xG expectation again. Mid table? Maybe, or close. Relegation? No chance.

If Danny Mills genuinely believes the likes of Norwich, Brentford, Southampton, Newcastle, Burnley, Wolves and Palace will ALL finish above us come end of the season he clearly hasn’t been paying us much attention. I know he had an issue with us for being mean and not letting Ben White “stay” with his beloved Leeds.

I would happily bet a grand with Mr Mills that we will not go down this season with the proceeds going to charity. Would love someone to make him put his money where his mouth is.

It is worrying that our most dangerous player has been injured for 8 months and our most able striker is injury-prone and currently on the sidelines.

If we sign Cucurella and Nunez / Edouard then I fancy we'll finish 12th or higher, just Cucurella then maybe 14th, no more signing then it's 15th/16th once again.

Danny Mills is entirely correct to name us In that group of teams. We haven’t improved where we were really poor last season (goals) and are arguably worse off now DW is injured.
