No, I don't think it is, although I don't know for sure!

If you can look at something and say 'I can see why the ref didn't give that', despite TV replays from other angles showing a foul, then that is not defined as 'a clear and obvious error'. As such, VAR has no remit.

I thought VAR is to prevent massive cock ups, where you think 'how did the ref not give that', or where the ref cocked up by being in completely the wrong place.

In this case you can see why the ref didn't give it, so no VAR. But I could be wrong on all that!

Also, the lino should have seen it clear as day, but I'm not sure they have authority to call a foul/penalty?

I have long been amazed that McThug even gets a game for United. He is everything a traditional United player isn’t. At least Keane had skill and ability at the top level to go with his thuggishness. McThug only has thuggishness on what I’ve seen of him.

The thing is, McThug didn’t even get a yellow card despite numerous bad (imho) fouls when we beat United last season at The Amex. I’m still trying to work how he avoided a card in that match. I wonder if refs over think some decisions some times.

One of the few times where I have been 100% convinced the ref was cheating. On top of completely wrong decisions he didn't even try and hide the fact he was crooked with his constant grinning and body language. The tackle was a clear red and could have easily been career ending. Also the clear penalty where he just smirked and played on. Should be investigated.

I doubt he's crooked. Just crap.

I’m pretty sure it was after the final whistle but was VARRED because every one was still on the pitch and the handball occurred before the final whistle.

The issue which left me MOST angry, and which won't ever be reviewed again, was the one where Welbeck plucked the ball out the sky, went through on goal and the lino put their flag up. Why on earth was that not allowed to continue. On replay it was SO CLOSE yet the linespeople will keep their flags down and let play go on even when EVERYONE in the stadium knows a player is about 5 yards offside.

Madness.

Apparently, they've been told to flag the tighter calls this season as they see them rather than wait for VAR if the ball is out on the flank and there's no immediate danger. Which is probably to be welcomed. Quite how that applies though to a centre-forward who would have been clean through is anybody's guess.

I have experienced many a season of "crap" referees but yesterday was in the 100% "crooked" territories for me. I very rarely even bother mentioning the ref in posts, as is often a case of "it is what it is" but it was shady as feck yesterday and the bloke should be investigated (along with who was in charge of the VAR decisions if necessary).

Have you got any links as I hadn't heard anything to that effect. That said, the assistant on the nearside (from our fans) didn't do the same when Utd broke through. Play was allowed to progress and then the flag went up.

Big difference this year is that their mistakes didn’t cost us, we are getting too good to be cheated.

He really should have been sent off not just yesterday, but also in the game at the Amex. He's horrendous.

I can sort of understand McTominay being a yellow as both players went in robustly and it caught him just above the ankle. It was borderline but can accept that. The penalty was a joke decision. Fair enough if the ref doesn’t have great view, he wouldn’t be able to see the full extent of the contact from behind but what the hell were VAR and the linesman thinking. Scandalous.

However I genuinely think it may work out in our favour, I do think over the next few weeks a penalty decision that is 50/50 will go in our favour. When they do their weekly debrief the refs will know we were robbed and subconsciously that will be in there the next time we appeal.

I think rugby do the TMO system much better. There's a proper dialogue going, the ref refers things up if he is not sure or wants confirmation, the TMO tells the ref about foul play he may have missed. And the conversations are public for people to see and the replays are shown on the big screen.
