Reasons to hate the French?

None whatsoever. Like all countries, there is a small percentage of unpleasant people and a huge majority of nice people.

It has great cities, great food and great wine. It has beautiful countryside, with mountains, beaches and canyons to visit. The roads are fantastic and the motorways a joy. The way of life and relative lack of stress is brilliant. There is fabulous, adventurous architecture, a self-sufficient film industry and fine music. Amazing castles, museums and public parks.

What's not to like? I think you should try visiting again.

It's a fantastic country.

You have a good point there! Out of interest, are you actually based in Yugoslavia. I had a great time years ago in the Bled area.
