Racism in Australia

this reminds me of a story my grandma used to tell me.

When she was still alive, she lived in dewsbury, west Yorks.

Anyway, the area was a mixture of white and pakistani families who lived in perfect harmony. At the time of the Balkans war, the western powers decided to move some of the families out of Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and into England....the majority of these were muslims who had suffered horribly under the serbs.

These people were "settled" in dewsbury ( and other places) and due to the nature of the people who had witnessed horrible scenes, they immediatly began imposing themselves on the locals, with terrible consequences. the area became no-go areas. Territory was fought over and families were forced out of areas.

this is the side of England that is rarely reported.

it is quite easy once you have a bit of experience to distinguish between egyptians , white muslims and lebanese............hotel owners have a duty of care to thier patrons and are liable for legal action if people are injured on thier premises, they can therefore decide who get's in and who don't...!!

The problem as I see it is that when a member or members of a particular group step out of line, that behaviour is then extrapolated by a rival group over the whole of that group and is then used as an excuse to indulge in their deep seated hostility and bigotry.

There is never any perspective in these matters, rather than using the law to target individuals who have broken the law or behaved badly it just seems the easy thing to do to blame an entire group.

This then leads to further incidents and reprisals and an escalation of hostilities. It's all so bloody pointless. People should grow up and accept that people are different, and stop being so bloody territorial about everything.

If somebody's behaviour is wrong, then it should be dealt with in a civilised manner, and if required the use of law, not some self serving macho-revenge bullcrap designed to make some small minded prats feel big.

london irish , the point of my daughters all having blone hair and blue eyes is that such young ladies are regarded as a priority in some circles

You bet mate :lolol:

Ever seen the film "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" - that's you in fifteen years :lolol: :lolol:

The biggest disappointment of your life, I predict right now, will be your daughters won't turn out to be as big a racist as you :)

you miss my point mate...

where a certain group in society have a prejudice against the female population ( that makes up over half the entire population) then that is going to cause a problem at some time, as witnessed by the people at our local school.

This is not a local issue, this is a cultural issue and one that is acceptable on religious grounds. I am not only talking about Muslims, I am also talking about orthodox Jews who also believe in the subjegation of women. religous leaders openly encourage this "separation" and there have been reports in Australia that one of the issues that these guys had was the way "their women" were treated by these specifically "arab" people.

But was it really all that long ago that most blokes from Huddersfield had those attitudes about women. Things changed then, and quickly.

I'm far more optmistic than you that the 2G English Muslim women will assert their rights and their indepedence and such backward attitudes you describe (which I don't doubt exist) will be overcome.

I was brought up in a school where 93 per cent of the kids were immigrants. There was no racism in my school or in the part of London I grew up in. Other social problems, sure, but not inter-ethnic conflict. That experience has always left me with a very positive view of race relations and the ability of difference cultures to get along.

The events in Australia remind me a lot of the Notting Hill riots of long ago, grotesque provocation by the host white community stirred up by known Nazi/far right elements, and then a huge backlash by the immigrant community under attack. Everyone can now finger point and blame everyone else, but the reality is that the modern Australia is a multi-ethnic country and as years go by will become more so. The racists have no where to go - the ethnics will soon be arriving in Perth too no doubt if they are not already there :)

I'm just asking you to think back to the attitutes towards women of previous generations.

Enlightenment in social attitudes is a process that every community has gone through or is now going through.

Well, if you come from a family of liberal views, then lucky you.

But it is only in recent generations that women's roles have been redefined for the better.

It's a point humourously made, especially about your part of the world, by Soccer AM and their "Yorkshire News" spoof, yeah? :)

No he hasn't. The Sydney Morning Herald has given a variety of first hand accounts of what is going on in Oz. Plus analysis. Y'know, interviewing all sides of the situation. Two sides to every story and all that.

Geezer on here has been airing his VIEWS on 'Lebos' taking over, mainly cos in his view they arrived in the country about ten years after he did and in his VIEW started taking over. Or some such racist f***ing gibberish.
