you are still not getting it. mass home ownership is a very new phenomenon, and certainly not a right, especially in a location of your preference. you cannot certainly not seriously consider yourself a socialist if you subscribe to this belief. housing is a right yes, home ownership in the south of England because thats where your mum is, hmm not so much.

I'm not trying to say it is a right to have your own home, I'm trying to say that if I have worked and saved up enough money to buy a home/flat when I'm say 25 then and I want to live in my own home near to where I have spent my entire life then surely that should be an option instead of moving miles away to a place I don't know

What BETTER way to STIR up a PEACFUL demo is for RIGHT wing INFILTRATORS to attack the police and DEFACE a war memorial, just a TASTE of things to come under Cameron's DICTATORSHIP

How is a majority of 12 a dictatorship.

And to follow your suggestion that right wing infiltrators were responsible, this is clearly something that the left would say to try and deflect blame from themselves.

I understand that house prices up north are much lower, that's why I said the majority of people my age that I know face this issue. My point is that why should people have to move up north and leave there family and friends behind if they want their own home. I know you're not saying they should but that is the reality

Lets just take England there's about 53 million people of which London and the South-east there's 17 million leaving 36 million outside the expensive area that's hardly the majority of people your posting about.

You buying your home. How do you reckon it should be dealt with? Supply and demand, the on average, higher wages in the area all dictate prices. I know it's hard I've got 4 adult children all facing the same problem, However there's no party who's going to do really be able to change it. Building new houses goes someway but also aspirations do not help. When I bought my first flat I, like many others, moved in with nothing. I didn't need a removal van a bike would have done. I had an old tv and a deck chair. Next day I got a mattress. Now everyone wants everything, I've heard them say they'd never buy a flat, move to a cheaper area (places like Hastings you can still get a cheap place).

The other issue we have down here is that when people die their estate is worth so much more relative to someone of similar status living elsewhere in the country. Obviously this is due to their homes being worth so much more. The estate is normally inherited by the kids who may then invest it in a new bigger home in the area and the circle starts again.

The true answer? God knows.

Is pointing the finger at Labour really the only way you can respond? Ok, so Labour f*cked up and that somehow makes cruel welfare reforms less on an issue because...?

Well of course it is, because Labour were arguably even more inept.

Moaning about what the tories might do and what the consequences might be, carries little relevance given the monumental misery arising from the Labour party's own failures while in govt. I know you don't like it but that is the facts.

You have had the grace to recognise it..........so move on and concentrate on what Labour can do to win the trust of large swathes of the British working class back, or is even it possible?

I have seen no articles in quality papers.

And what quality papers are those then? I'm guessing by the scepticism you may be talking about papers such as the Daily Mail and The Telegraph perhaps? Because they aren't biased at all...

Anyway a quick Google search will give you everything you need. Or just bury your head in the sand. Your call.

As I pointed out, part of your generation's problem is that millions have moved to a place they don't know, and as we see in the news on a daily basis hundreds of thousands continue to do so.

I can't recall what Labour was going to do to help you (and other aspiring capitalists) in the same situation.........

Maybe border controls could help..........what do you think?

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the protest(s), to say the least it was tasteless to hold them today. Today is a day for celebrating and honouring all that my parents' generation did for us - including electing the best government this country has ever had, which despite the country being ravaged and wrecked by war managed to set up the NHS (which is no doubt at least part of the reason that some of us are actually here) and the Welfare State (which again will have helped many of us at some time or other - even those who vote Tory!)

Again, regardless of the rights and wrongs of the protest(s), the desecration of the War Memorial was a despicable act - a despicable act pretty obviously committed by ONE PERSON. Not lefties, not students, not yobs, or any of the other diatribes that have been volleyed at non-tories on here today. It was done by ONE PERSON; that person is scum - maybe from one or more of the groups above, or none - who should be arrested, shamed and dealt with severely by the courts. Blame that one person, not whole groups of people who did not deface any War Memorials.

I'm not a Labour supporter so I'm really not interested in this immature "X did this so it doesn't matter that Y did this" way of thinking. That's how children rationalise bad behaviour not adults. And we aren't talking about what the Tories might do. We're talking about what has happened and what is likely to continue happening. Labour's past evils don't concern me in this instance. I am more concerned with the evils that are happening now and it would be the same whether the tie was blue, yellow or red.

thats what social housing was for, not a housing market.

I see, so we should not make any childish comparisons between the performance of different Govts based on their political flavours, but we should concentrate on the Tories policies and their negative consequences.

I take it you know what happened last Thursday?

It was interesting take it from me..........you really won't believe what happened.

Mental.

You're not making comparisons you're childishly deflecting bad Tory policy by talking about bad Labour policy as if the latter cancels out the former. You seem far more conerned with pointing out Labour's flaws than you are at looking at what is happening now and has been happening over the last five years to most vunerable in society.

I'm still waiting for you to provide evidence of your insinuation that I'm sympathetic and supportive of child abuse.

It is an option and lets hope you achieve it. There's some well paid jobs out there, work towards one of those and you stand a chance. Only having a low to medium paid job then there's a problem but in all honesty it's been the same since the 70's in this area.

I fully support the building of low rent properties within all areas especially villages where, children (young adults) from families who have lived there for generations, are being pushed out by wealthy townies. The problem in some respect is greater in rural areas than towns/cities. In some ways you better off buying to let a property in a cheaper area and renting in the area you want to be in. You are still on the property ladder, and your rent is being offset.

As has been mentioned by others you sound like a socialist who embraces a bit of capitalism, as you get older and wiser you views will change and moderate.

Immigration is a problem IMO, but too many people throw the racist label about when it's discussed, I think that if a migrant wants to move here and actually brings something to the country than they are obviously welcome but it's this mass migration that is an issue. I am not racist in any way but something needs to be done about it. Obviously it's not the biggest issue and I also feel too many British people would rather get benefits than get a job

Not to worry. Anyway you were adamant that you would emigrate if the Tories got back in. Anywhere in mind.

Probably just realised this is still the best country to live in, in the world, even if the intelligent majority were very wise in ditching that stupid Labour/SNP alliance.

Yesterday's rally was only a pre-cursor to a much bigger anti austerity rally on June 20th in London as part of a "Summer of Discontent"
