One swallow doesn't make a summer. I'll be keeping my pie in the fridge. The guy looks pony and the suggestion that a handful of people on here moaning about him in any way affects his performance and confidence is laughable.

Now i know why he's so shit . He reads this forum and has run off to Gus crying, saying- Gus, the fans think im shit and its got me down and playing so badly. Gus- Don't worry barn door billy, I'll sign you just to piss the doubters off.

Thank Christ someone else with some sense ..... If half of this lot got off he's back he would probably start doing the job that Gus wants him to do
Yes he missed a good opportunity at Reading with the header but then again CMS missed 2 from as close range but he don't get abused

Que more flack and quoted commements from the super pundits and keyboard football managers on here

Gus knows what he is doing and if that includes Billy then FFS get behind the lad and the team not on he's back

Cms also consistently works his arse off. You go figure why we're giving paynter schtik.

Big Cuddly Pandas.

I think paying for him at this stage is somewhat premature. Through either a lack of luck, support from midfield or actual personal form or all three its not worked fir him yetcand he has looked a bit rubbish.

I would take him in loan for the rest of the season to see how it pans out and use the transfer money for more creativity in midfield. Then in July bring him here permanently if he shows a little more.

This.

Very much THIS!
It didn't take long for everyone to know better than Poyet.
Still, at least it gives the fifty year old children on here the chance to use BARN DOOR as a nick name again.

Barndoor was from the Leeds fans actually, we were warned by numerous posters BEFORE he even he played for us he was shit!. Have a look at their Forums and see for yourself.

I feel sorry for him.

In the Forest game he started the game quite well and did some good stuff then the first mistake he made loads of "supporters" around me shouted "get him off he's f useless". Unbelievable really just shows that if you have built up an impression of a player you are completely blind to any positive contribution he makes and just notice the shit.

I've got to admit I don't think he's done enough to want him here permanently but some people haven't given him a chance.

The flak this guy is copping seems way out of proportion. As far as I can make out, we've tended to do pretty well in the games where he's played as a partner to CMS (rather than behind him) - and at the weekend, once he came on and the team changed shape we had far more chances in front of goal. Clearly he's not the best striker in the division that's for sure, but top class Championship forwards are hard to find and expensive. Probably too expensive for us at the moment. So, rather than whingeing constantly, it might be good if people gave the bloke a break and stopped knocking his confidence which was probably low already from a dispiriting spell at Leeds. Presumably the moaners will be happy when they've proved their point as they did by driving Craig 'Barndoor' Davies out of the club. His form since would suggest there wasn't much wrong with the player.. and a few fans should take a look at their own behaviour.

If we didn't buy him it'd go a long way towards another players wages. Imagine we could get a decent CAM on a free, i'm sure an extra 200k a year (400k over two year contract) would tempt them. As for Paynter, I don't think he's played that badly. He's not as effective as hoped, however I agree with the earlier poster who said to extend the loan and maybe sign in summer if he shows a marked improvement.

9 games played for us & no goals.
It is hardly enlightening!
Gus I am afraid is a poor judge at finding strikers. His record is not good & when we do get a forward with a pedigree (CMS), they come here & don't score many either! Perhaps it is the coaching? Either way goals win games, goals bring fans in & entertain us - not passing the ball back to the keeper continuously.

If you think the only way of judging a striker's contribution to the team is his goalscoring record, then I'll stick with Gus's judgement thanks...

Likewise, if you don't think the style of football we try to play is going to take us places, you're watching the wrong club all the time we're lucky enough to have Poyet in charge.

To be fair if I were granted a wish of getting rid of one player I'd pick Harley over Paynter ... for some reason I've a feeling he could come good (but not putting money on it)

Every day that goes by without a signing is good news, the new Director of Football gets his feet under the desk next week, it's been too long without a decent one or a head scout (even Gus' assist manager isn't adding much on mtach days) as is shown with a number of recent signings falling short on various fronts

Just a little harsh on Billy,i feel.....i cant remember him missing an open goal, and maybe he would have taken Sandazas goals yesterday in the SPL (Clear chances !!! ),now if you said 500k then a little steep . Now if Mr Bates was to accept cira £150k ,about the the same as Cooks fee, with a fat sell on then i could get tempted.......

In theory £150k for a championship squad player is ok, but factor in wages and the point is that for that money we could easily have afforded to keep Murray who is a much better player that BP. No one is really sure, but the general belief seems to be that we were around £3k per week short of what GM wanted, and I bet BP will want a lot more that £3k per week! If we do sign BP long term, this smacks of desperation, poor planning in the summer is coming back to haunt us now!

Couple of things, Don't blame the player, blame the manager and the system, the only time he has played well was droping back and playing in the hole, sorry Gus but he is meant to be a striker, this is the same issue the fans have with Barnes.

Second, this club is very ambitious, new ground, new money coming in, signing Paynter and wanting to finish the season pushing for top six is that being ambitious, not in my books.

I like Gus's passion but very unsure about his signings.
