What’s created the culture on here is not criticism, but definitively calling for him to be sacked - 2 different things I feel.

If the argument is reduced to a binary one, then the result will be either backing him or sacking him.

Some people like the binary argument, revel in it, satirise it even. Doesn’t really help though.

Personally, as in the OP, I’m backing him but he isn’t without mistakes and failures as already stated. They’re on a scale where I’m sure there will be a big review of what can be improved, but there’s been enough evidence to see the direction those improvements can take us.

I get the feeling some people want him sacked simply because they don’t like the look of him or his mannerisms. When the argument gets down to that level, it’s not really worth acknowledging.

Yup. Taken at face value that quote makes it appear like player and manager had a moment of revelation in the Southampton changing rooms when St Mary appeared before them in a vision and it suddenly became clear that if Tross scored some goals it would help.

I guess what he was trying to say was they spoke more about the mechanics of 'how' rather than the point of 'why.'

Yes you're quite right. The conversation between him and Potter clearly wasn't quite so black and white, agree the PR department should have helped with this.

Luckily as little old Brighton and Hove Albion this quote will only be picked up on by the fans, local media and Naylor. Could you imagine the media coverage this would get if it was Rashford saying this about Solskjaer or Werner about Tuchel?!

Dan Ashworth was brought in and integral to the transformation as he brought the technical expertise to the conversation. There would've been a clear plan and identity that all 3 felt was required to reach their aim.

For whatever reason it was decided that CH wasn't the guy to achieve that long term project and Potter was brought in. +'s being his style of play and his belief that every player can improve if coached properly meaning nobody is too young or too inexperienced. -'s being he had never managed in the premier league before or had to work with any overpaid superstars. (This resulted in a few heading out on loan and others being promoted from the academy)

The change of style has been impressive with some players who many never thought had the technical ability to adapt thriving alongside some very promising individuals. This results in individual errors and a lack of tactical awareness in some crucial moments throughout the season, things that will reduce with game time as players increase their experiences. Bloom & Barber are wise enough to know that progress will not be linear, sometimes there will be large gains and other times small gains but the long term project is always held in mind.

Potter makes some strange selections and tactical oddities, some of these pay off whilst others look bizarre. What is clear is he is still an ideal candidate to help Brighton achieve their long term project of becoming a top 10 side and in doing so will be a team who don't worry about relegation. This may be another 5 years away but the style and the philosophies he has will get us there if given time and support by the club

no doubt we HAVE wise dudes in charge, wise enough to PUNT Locadia and hopefully wise enough to offload AJ as lovely as he may be he ain't a prem player but we all said that about Lindegard and look at him go ......................we just need to sit back , watch the box and STFU.......anything more than that and you're looking for a job in football and you don't wanna stick your dingle in that place to get that job ....true..??

Potter is not the messiah and doesn't play the players I would've expected him to for each match. He thinks about things very deeply and is planning for a bigger picture. It's best not to get too excited at the highs or too upset at the lows but enjoy the progress made on and off the pitch over the next few seasons

Despite completely agreeing with you and even with my unwavering commitment to Mr Potter, the bit that gets me into trouble is when I point out we're approaching two full years and the long term project is in pretty much exactly the same place as it was when it started, just younger, but heavily reliant on 'old' heads.
