Don't disagree with most of what you say (as you know), but I would point out we had a monumentally shit set of strikers at the time.

Neal Maupay
Aaron Connolly - played 45 games for us and scored 60% of his total goals for us in ONE game
DJ Locadia - A man who was GENUINELY more a drum'n'bass DJ than a footballer
Andi Zeqiri

A comically bad line up for a Prem team with aspirations of finishing higher than 18th. IMO.
And Potter still thought Gykores wasn't good enough for a Premier league start.

Did ANYBODY at the time? I know I didn’t on the little I saw of him. He had to drop to the Championship before he hit some form

There are plenty of sticks available to beat Potter with, this is not one of them imo
If there's a match thread tonight I bet we will see all of them! Look, he's sucking his teeth again, can't stand it! Wrong shoes, horrible haircut. I read his lips and I think he just said something about history, ****, w*nker. 100 home games without a win. Should have played Mac Allister every game, everybody knew he would lift the World Cup trophy. Shirt worse than his polo ...

I might have missed some ... doh!

Ifs and buts. The fact is West Ham have just sacked a manager after only 6 months demonstrating their much vaunted "patience." Potter will not get the time he desires and will be a failure as a result. Hell, they tried to give him a 6 month contract because even they know.

Potter will never again have it as good or easy as he had it here. A more patient fanbase in the prem do not exist.
I think you’ve nailed it here.

But if he can get though to September without getting the boot after a successful summer window, he could have a good chance. What he’ll need is a good slice of luck though which I have never associated him with. There were so many games under his management where the opposition would score from a couple of chances where as our dozens of shots would never find their way into the net. No deflections, no own goals, few dodgy penalties (which we would miss if awarded). Just a litany of missed chances. This was until his last year in charge when it suddenly clicked and he found himself with a top 4 team that had added a better defensive rigidity to an ability to put the ball in the bloody net! But that took 3 years…..

Really hope Villa give the Hammers a good pasting and for all the Potter apologists let me clarify why and I like to think many are of the same opinion.

He was undoubtedly a pretty good manager for us. Crucially, I had no problem with his motivation in leaving us for Chelsea. He was entitled to have ambition and the huge wages that went with it. However, this is my major beef. On arrival at at Chelsea his best plan cooked up with the idiot Yank owner is to return to album and pillage some of our key back room staff and I don't just mean Billy and Bjorn who you would expect to follow him. That move could have sent us into free fall but for the brilliant succession planning of Bloom and Barber. As it was we had some brilliant times and memories under RDZ. However, it could have easily gone the other way which is why the I don't get the ' love in ' still for Potter by some of our fan base.

We could have said the same about young Ayari - and yet Fabs has given him a chance, and for me he’s doing well - might even get better !

Besides which, I like beating Potter with a stick - it’s tremendously satisfying.

Ex players from that time have publicly said he was miles off it at that time. Even Mark Robins so bought him said the player the signed was completely different to the one they loaned

Hughton did
And he looked useless?

I hope your are not trying to rewrite history again and suggest CH was a fan of giving youth a chance?

I suppose it makes a change for you to go back to slagging off Potter again, gives us some respite from you slagging Fab off

I am surprised you haven’t switched your allegiance to Olympique de Marseille in truth.

Ayari had a season playing in the Championship. I have no idea why I keep responding to people searching the undergrowth looking for additional sticks to beat Potter with when there is already a big pile of them

Potter actually started Gyokeres in more games than Hughton did. Neither of them gave him any game time in the PL.
Well yes, actually he didn't (four FA Cups and one League Cup appearance under Hughton, just three League Cup appearances under GP) - but for the two seasons he was our player under Potter (Potter's first 2 seasons) he was out on loan, which did rather reduce Potter's options to play him!

Incidentally, how did he get away with playing for three clubs (Brighton, Swansea and Coventry) in 2020-21? (according to Wiki).

I like searching the undergrowth, it’s generally where you’ll find the biggest sticks.

Nah, Ayari was wholly uninspiring during his loan period… no one, not one of us would have predicted he’d be at the club this year, let alone a regular starter.

Maybe Fab is a better man manager and coach than GP ? I give you the complete and utter mis-management of Aaron Connolly for one… I know you’re utterly besotted but the majority of your ‘Graham’ posts come across as “sentimental hogwash” to quote another dastardly Potter.

I am not defending GP or knocking Fab (much) but you appear to have a hate for GP and serious reservations about Fab. Are you another RDZ fanboy in distress?

I didn’t particularly trust Roberto and thought his one dimensional tactical flaws undermined any glory he bought, along with his downing of tools… so, no not really.

So you don’t like ANY of our last three managers much then? :lolol:

Quite weird given where we’ve finished over the last few seasons and our previous “history”

This idea - floated on here - that keeping Albion in the PL , developing a bunch of players that we then sold for hundreds of millions and giving us our first ever top 10 position in the PL is somehow not remarkable and a credit to the coach - who had never managed at that level before - is an interesting one. Even if you don't like the bloke. Especially given the number of young ish coaches -3 or 4 a season - who have failed to even approach a track record like that in the Prem.

Most of them haven’t been given time though in fairness. TB

If WHU give him time and the players I can see them competing at the same level as us within a season

I said started more games under Potter. Only two of those games under Hughton were starts compared to all 3 games being starts under Potter. Hughton did name him in 3 PL squads but he never got off the bench.

Gyokeres could play for 3 clubs as during the Covid pandemic FIFA temporarily increased the number of teams a player could play for in a season to 3 rather than just the normal 2.
