we were crap in front of goal.
Don't disagree with most of what you say (as you know), but I would point out we had a monumentally shit set of strikers at the time.

Neal Maupay
Aaron Connolly - played 45 games for us and scored 60% of his total goals for us in ONE game
DJ Locadia - A man who was GENUINELY more a drum'n'bass DJ than a footballer
Andi Zeqiri

A comically bad line up for a Prem team with aspirations of finishing higher than 18th. IMO.

I know many won't admit it now but I bet the majority were gutted when it was announced he was leaving.
I've been fine with how things have gone since, but I think if Potter was still with us now, we'd be in a better position in the league.

I fully agree with this but it must be said that the Neal Maupay we signed - whilst not a world beater - was a much better player than the one we sold to Everton. He fell out of favour, sulked, and then got his move at the perfect time (for us) as his ability was on the way down.

Sure - his record at Brentford was more than decent.

Keep my DJ Locadia's name out your f***ing mouth!

FWIW, I have a lot of sympathy for GP around the lack of goals in season 1 and 2. As you rightly point out, we had some dross up top and despite possession stats, we didn't really control games in the way we would under RDZ (as we were a lesser side). In the third season, where we finished 9th, we were the second lowest scoring side outside of the relegation zone and too over reliant on the second best defensive record outside of the top 4. I understood his tactic was to create high xG chances for the strikers to finish but we could also see he didn't want his midfielders to take lower xG shooting opportunities around the box. There is no coincidence that Ali Mac went from 5 goals in 21/22 to 12 goals in 22/23, Gross from 2 to 10, March from 0 to 8, even Lallana from 0 to 3 despite playing less games. Our midfield didn't score under Potter, and if our strikers weren't in form or good enough to play at that level, then we didn't score.

So much bitterness on this thread
I'm almost obsessed at how obsessed some people are by everything that man does or says.

Personally, I wasn't too fussed when Potter left Brighton and am even less bothered what he's up to now

Just mentioned on TS we would be open to loaning Ferguson to West Ham that could a monumental error.
Why? How could it be a monumental error? Tell us the worst that could happen.

His goals help West Ham finish above us, he gets his mojo back and doesn't want to return.

As I've said on the EF thread, anyone thinking that loaning EF to another EPL club is a good idea needs to be kept away from sharp objects and have grapes cut in half for them.

Welbeck - that's ex England Welbeck who we are sorely missing at the moment - joined in October 2020. Potter had him for about two years. Maupay contributed a lot more than goals to the team. The other three were, indeed, dogshit though.

While staying in his new digs in Newham, he enrols at the University of East London. Discovering a hitherto unknown penchant for physics, he is fast tracked to a degree and a job at CERN.

After a boozy night out with Aaron Creswell, Jarrod Bowen and Danny Ings, the three jet over to Switzerland to “have a go” on the Large Hadron Collider. Egged on by his new teammates, Evan starts putting items in the two ends to crash them into each other and “see what happens”.

After a collision between a bag of Malteasers and a completed 2014 World Cup sticker album, the Collider malfunctions and explodes. This causes a black hole to form under Switzerland; ending humanity, the Solar System and devastating the Milky Way galaxy. Life forms hitherto unknown to humanity perish in their billions. The surviving civilisations among the stars come to know it as “the great extinction”. All that is left in this part of the Milky Way is the one Malteaser which ended it all, being lighter than air it bobs aimlessly through space.
