I don't know much about Portslade except for these two facts: Dave the Gaffer alights there and I go through it to get to Hove and its finer establishments.

I was born in the front room of 25, West Street, Portslade (off North Street).

Bulldozed away in 1962, along with the Windmill pub in same road, now the car park for Stormont's the Ford truck company.

Grew up in Portslade then bought an amazing flat in Central hove 5 years back with the girlfreind and life was pretty good - in between Hove and Bton station for the commute to London, great pubs and bars and all the other amenities that central Hove provides. Lovely stuff.

However throw a baby into the mix and suddenly trying to find anything around the 350 k mark with a Garden become very difficult - so we made the bold move back to Portslade (well back for me, Mrs had never lived there and wasnt massivly keen at first)

However 1 year down the line, absolutely made the right decision. Got a lovely Victorian terrace with 3 bed, big rooms and nice garden. Seafront and lagoon is 15 min walk, 1 stop more on the train (and Tony at Portslade station does a lovely Latte in the morning), parks, good school in St Marys and can actually park the car - would cost at least 550 k for all this in Central hove and even 2 roads along New Chruch road in identical houses they are 100k more than ours.

Even since we moved in, weve noticed lots of younger families moving in so think it depends on what stage of life your at - certainly there are better areas for when your young, free and single.

There are also better areas for houses etc, but i cant fault Portslade too much for everything that you need as a young family.

Dave hails from Mile Oak - he might get ofended if it's thought he came from Port-de-la-slade.

Does the Hong Kong garden deliver to central Shoreham perchance ? I could do with a new chinese takeaway experience.

It does indeed. So many customers in Shoreham now that look for a new experience (like yourself) and end up staying.

Living in the real world.
Worked in North street Portslade for nearly 6 years now. I lived in gardner street as a kid, boring, dull, gormless, soul destroying place.

The place time forgot.

good school in St Marys

Why does everyone think St Marys is good? It's a VERY average Catholic school and unless you're a Tim or at least Christened you won't get in. St Peter's is a very good school, Peter Gladwyn is a very good school, Portslade Infants is OK and Benfield's dreadful. And before you move to Portslade with kids or breed here think on this. There are nowhere near enough school places available for the kids that live here already and the Greens just wasted the money to change this on a biosphere and a food waste pilot.

Did you ever go in The Gladstone to watch Morris wee himself or was that before your time?

its 3.30 in the morning and I'm laughing like a drain
nothing wrong with Portslade I lived in the area for a long time(Fishersgate,Mile Oak) and had a great time there.
that video is a classic.

Surprised no-one has mentioned Victoria Rd?
If you live within 20 miles this is the place to buy a new or decent second hand car! Not much change from £10,000 here.

Porsche, VW, Volvo, Chanlers, Mazda, Mercs & more.
This is the place to window shop or buy.

Just along the road is Portslade Town Hall.
A building I have been in many times.....but only to give blood!
It's so retro. Sure it hasn't changed since the war!

Oooh, cool, Ta. I shall avail myself of this service soonest - maybe this week. Not sure if I have a menu at home, I may do.
