Thinking about it if you want to feel REALLY stylish and rich - and compare human faeces smells at the same time - then the Tesco's on Boundary Road is the very place for you.

Hove is the hidden gem of Portslade.
No seriously as a Portslade old boy it is ok. Plenty of good shops down Boundary Road/Station Road. Pubs not so good - Stag & The George in the Old Village used to be OK - I think the Mill House has gone downhill since I used to go there. Stanley & Gardeners ok. I don't do takeaways anymore but Shema Tandorri in Carlton Terrace used to be good.
Dog walks - take car/dog up Mile Oak Gardens and park near East/West Sussex border path and walk up onto Downs overlooking Mile Oak. Great in summer but a bit exposed at moment but dogs love it.
Mill House is now run by one of my dad mates, who he used to work with. He was the landlord at Hove Park Tavern. He didn't a fantastic job there!! And he doing a good job at the Mill House now, after years of dreadful ownership!!
-good local primary school (st mary's)

You might be technically correct but if you asked 100 on that very street what road Tesco's was on 20 of them would say Boundary Road, 1 would say Station Road and the other 79 would hit you with a can of reduced mushy peas and steal your copy of Razzle to use as rizla.
THE TUNNEL HAS BEEN STARTED AND WE HOPE TO GET OVER 300 OUT BY LATE MARCH! PLEASE MAKE YOUSELF KNOWN TO THE BRIGADIER HUT 39 ON ARRIVALSo I'm moving from Preston Park to PORTSLADE (bit more space for the dog etc.) and I need some local advice.
What hidden gems are there in this up-and-coming goldmine of a community? I'm particularly interested in pubs, takeaways, places to walk the pooch, butchers & greengrocers.
I know THE STANLEY.
Gracias
I live on Shoreham beach but deliver for Chinese for HONG KONG GARDEN in Mile Oak top end of Portslade. I can honestly say Portslade is OK to work in but personally I wouldnt like to live there. Station Road is full of bric a brac shops foreign owned takeaways and Delis which are just after your money rather than delivering any type of quality. Someone mentioned Oriental Village being a good restaurant, only if you like being crammed in on a Fri/Sat night.
The redeeming factors in Portslade are that you have a good base in wether to catch a bus/train to the Amex. The Stanley pub is by far the nicest pub others are proper geezer pubs but people like that sort of thing.
Hope the move goes well and wish you all the best.
