Sometimes they don't, very true. If you read the articles you have posted their are specific concerns about public disorder. Perhaps the specific intelligence suggested that the protesters were intending to cause public disorder by doing something like holding their protest on one of the largest Muslim community areas in the UK.

I can't speak for the other mealy mouthed great unwashed (or what ever name calling you would like to get involved with) but in my opinion people should be allowed to protest so long as their protests are not going to cause public disorder problems, violence or vandalism (obviously many protest do end up with these kind of problems but then there is no crystal ball) . The police obviously thought that these protests were going to cause problems so the banned them.

Next weeks March for England hasn't been banned then, so the EDL obviously do have the right to protest

The right-wing are absolutely indignant that anyone should even consider a simple protest such as turning your back on the coffin, and insisting that the police should arrest the protesting scum. Now, when Tony Blair or Gordon Brown die, these same right-wingers will be posting in fury about them receiving some kind of ceremonial funeral. They will be using their ‘witty’ nicknames such as Tony Bliar (ha ha ha), Gordon Clown (someone sew my sides back up!), or The Lie-bour Party (oh my, that is genius), and they will be frothing at the mouth if the police arrest anyone peacefully protesting Blair’s war crimes or whatever at the funeral. I would not rejoyce at their death you sad little man. Nobody should at the death of any British polititian. I celebrated when they were removed from power, and could not **** this country up any further. Anyone how did not agree with Mrs Thatcher had the same chance after "the Night of the Long Knives". There is no right to protest, or freedom of speach in this country any more. Blair and his cronies stopped all that. Anyone who tries to express an opinion about anything that is not in line with their views is committing a "hate crime".

I am sure she would, and me her. She was very pleasant when I met her briefly at the Congress in Eastbourne. It was no good to see so many of her supporters there, and the pathetic little pinkos under police protection taking our photos and saying we were the NF Leader Guard!
