zzzzz.....

So we have a new scapegoat...... Move over Ashley Barnes..... its now Gary Dicker.

Some of you are f***ing morons who doesn't deserve a seat at The Amex. If you can't see what Dicker did today, then quite frankly you have no understanding of football and should look to follow another sport. Jesus f***ing wept.

Ha, another holier than thou supporter of the mediocre........ let me say this, and I have watched a bit of footy in my time..... we will never get a sniff of the playoffs or promotion if we continue to play average league one players in the team..... AB and GD were poor, there were huge gaps in the m/f... exactly where those two should have been.

Again interesting views - for me it was Liam that went walkabout too often, leaving the gaps you refer to.
For me this season so far Liam's either been too far forward or lying too deep, meaning his colleagues are having to work too hard to fill the gaps.
Don't get me wrong, sill think Liam has the best chance of making it at a higher level, but he's not had the greatest start to the season vs the standards he's set over previous 2....

I think that Brum set up well against us (Burke and Lita were very good all game), but tactically we were poor.

This is the correct answer we did not have the one player on the pitch with the key to unlock them

Have to agree with this. Whilst I think Dicker did actually have one of his better games he definitely isn't the answer and hasn't been since we arrived in this tougher league. Barnes was extremely poor today and offered us nothing. Bridge was in a different league to everyone on the pitch today and his fitness levels are quite frankly amazing. Burke who is no mug was dying in the last 20mins trying to keep up with him. Gus loves dicker and Barnes so it's a case of put up with it I'm afraid.

This is a great shame. Both are good players but arguably, more often than not, they have shown that they are not quite good enough at Championship level. Put it this way, I doubt whether either would get into the starting 11 of most of the top Championship teams, which says something for me. By all means play them but when one or the other of them has a bad game he should be dropped for a while. Incidentally, I thought Dicker had a half decent game last night but sadly Ashley did not.

Yh, good post. Dicker played some decent passes but 1decent game in amongst lots of poor, anonymous , slow performances doesn't cut it at this level I'm sorry to say. Lets hope for a decent performance Tuesday, whoever plays.

Not really new, dicker has always been competing with barnes for the title of most unfairly criticised player at the club. Even back in our withdean games he was heavily criticised by some fans,

While I disagree with your assessment of his performances (I think this season he has played some great football), this thread is meant to be assessing him on yesterday's game. And in yeserday's game he put in a great performance and deserves higher marks than some people are giving him.

No worries Acker. I said I thought he had one of his better games yesterday.

Brighton
Kuszczak - 6
Calderon - 5 Bruno is a hard act to follow
El-Abd - 6
Greer - 6
Bridge - 7
Bridcutt - 7
Dicker - 8 Best performance I have seen from him
Hammond - 5
Buckley - 5 Worst performance I have seen from him
Barnes - 5 Bottled a 50/50 in front of the east stand which could have got him badly injured, then didn't want to know and should been subbed. I can see his merits when we are away but would much rather see 2 wingers at home. Did his customary fall over when challenged from behind in the second half which was in a really dangerous position if he didn't get the foul. Don't know why he does it.
Dobbie - 6 Glimpses of promise but not as the main striker.

LuaLua - 6
Lopez - 5 Oh dear I really hope that's not it. I was hoping for something remotely Vicenteish but was disappointed.

Poyet - 3 - Your team turned up with the wrong attitude. Used to do it time after time 2 seasons ago but could get away with it, now we can't. They need to be up for every game and that's down to you.

With Buckley ineffective and no CMS, i felt we lacked the pace to unsettle Birmingham. Dicker and Bridge were the pick, the rest on a par .

Kuszczack 6 Nothing to do
Calderon 5 Offered nothing going forward
Greer 6 Reliable apart from poor header from which they scored
El Abd 6 Usual reliable game tactically substituted
Bridge 9 Shows his obvious class and ability and our best left sided attack option.
Buckley 6 Ran too soon on most occasions when he doesn't need to
Hammond 5 Not his best game with some poor passes.
Bridcutt 6 Did all that was expected of him
Dicker 8 One of his best games and passes were superb but corners very poor,
Barnes 6 Couldn't read what Dobbie was doing and had we had another striker with ability available would have been substituted.
Dobbie 7 Very impressive but others weren't on the same wave length. Obviously not an out and out goal scorer

Subs

Lua Lua 6 Too predicatable
Lopez 4 Not very impressive

Overall impression was that despite what others may say our squad is very thin if 1 or 2 players are out especially striker wise. When will Hoskyns be back and available. Think Dobbie will link up well with CMS and become our 2nd striker from deep which is ominous for Barnes but would be good to have Barnes on the bench to come on if needed. Yesterday we had nothing on the bench likely to come on and score a goal.

Two players that don't cut it in this league where we finished in the top ten and are currently sitting in top position. Yeah, Gus doesn't know what he's doing with player selection does he?
