When I first bought my classic car, I started looking for a personalised number plate for it. My son came in and asked me what I was doing and how much I was going to spend on it. I told him about £350, upon which he told me not to be such a T055ER, and then proceeded to stand over me while I donated £350 to Save the Children.

I think he may have had a point and my mid life crisis still has the number plate it was first registered with.
I assume he never calls on the Bank of Dad for anything he wants?

I cannot envisage a situation where my kids would try and shame me about something I wanted that was not bank breaking and ask me to give the money to something else

My first vanity plate (as they are called in the US) was in California where you could have any previously un-issued and inoffensive combination of up to 7 letters and/or numbers for $40 a year car tax instead of the usual $25, so I had one with my name and it's sort of stuck with me.

Thats because 'GU' are vehicles registered in Guildford and presumably thats local to you
Is that still the case? I thought that was back in the day before number plates became AANNAAA??
I was told that GU were leased cars??

Anyone with the BO55 I automatically think what a f***ing tool 🤣
Spot on... Saw someone with that reg jump out his car and assault a recovery driver who had the audacity to stop to recover a broken down car. He had the choice of take another route and get delayed 1 minute or assault someone and incur a 5 minute delay.

I've just seen a big bad black Bentley reg EW 88 gliding down the road. Full dark glass, the lot. It was so quiet it could have been an EV but I suspect it was just a very expensive and well maintained ICE...
Rather impressive.

In Malta you can pay €1500 for a totally personalised plate I.e. SEAGULLS on a new registration. Some have xx or x1.
For €700 you can choose 3 letters and 3 numbers Some fools pay for KIA on a Kia orBMW on a BMW.

Yup. Saw it in Essex last year.
It was on a Transit van so I think it's fair to say that it's not any of the BHA senior mgt team.
Was on a souped up black saloon today heading for A23

Connolly??🤣

Found one recently that almost perfectly spells my surname. It had one 'P' rather than two. It was £3,500 though so never paying that

I'm not normally a fan, particularly of ones that purport to spell out a name, but two I've seen recently have been B16 TOE and F4 CUP.

Guilty I have a private plate but don’t have it on my current car. I’m looking at buying a new car soon so may put it on but undecided, may just sell the plate.
Sadly for some it’s a take on my username / nickname but was only £250 at the time.
I’m also guilty of fudging the spaces, I kept a set of legal plates in boot that I’d switch for mot or if I was stopped but was never needed.

Ive got private plate. its my name and 4 digits so I think looks good. it sits on an older car to disguise its age. it was very very cheap so am well happy.
I however think almost every other personal plate to be numpty. So grade 1 double standards.
