[Albion] Penalty or not so much?

Should that have been a penalty?

I didn't see the touch Saliba got. I'm guessing Taylor didn't either. That brings it into head clash territory. I'm not sure how it works then. But I would argue it probably isn't a penalty.

On a more comical note, it's a political quandary for some who were lamenting Taylor's biased performance 🤣

Cen we have a poll for the same situation but with Arsenal winning a penalty in our box ? Can we see what the Taylor thread would have looked like ?
Thought Taylor was OK

I thought he seemed to favour Arsenal first half, lots of fouls awarded to them, then obvious ones like Rice on Ayari he’s waving play on.

I wondered if he reviewed decisions he’d given at HT because the reverse seemed to be true 2nd half. Perhaps refs can have a game of 2 halves too.

The Arsenal player led with his head into João Pedro’s head. That’s a foul.

Miss timed kick by Pedro at Villa.......pen given and i thought that was harsh. Karma

Part of why that was harsh is because it wasn't given, and Atwell decided it was a clear and obvious mistake, and there may have been a foul on Bart.

Pen for me. Touching the ball before hitting a player doesn't mean it's not a pen. If that's the rule for a foot, why not a head?
Exactly. It’s dangerous and out of control - just like the decisions we see with tackles. Also note, it’s him with his over aggressive bully boy defending that tries to foul Minteh in the build up - he panics and comes tearing in like a bull in a china shop. Clear pen.

One of dozens of soft penalties that ate being given by Premier League refs.

I stand by what I said after the Villa game.

The guidance for awarding penalties needs to be looked at.

It's way too easy to get a 0.9xg opprortunity, from completely accidwntal comings together.

It is ruining matches.

But we were owed one, so I'll take it.

Mikel Arteta on the penalty: “It’s very disappointing.”

“I've never seen a decision like this in my career. I asked the boys, and they have never seen anything like it.”

"I've never seen a decision like this in my career. Have any of you ever seen a decision like that?"
"No boss."

What else were they going to say?

I have a neutral view of officials. I don't assume bias and just accept decisions, unless there was an obvious error. I saw two in this game, one where Minteh was denied progress for a foul I felt he didn't commit. Another where Pervis really should have been pulled up and booked for an aerial lunge into Rice.

I tried an experiment in the second half. And that was to view the ref's game through the eyes of a partisan Arsenal fan. It only lasted a few minutes. I found this alternative me moaning about everything and anything. He was clearly a Liverpool fan...

To me this demonstrates how it is impossible to have a rational debate about refereeing. Folk say European refs are best. But that is only because, ironically, they view them through neutral eyes. Taylor, as a point of note, is one of Europe's highest ranked officials (Nations league Final and Europa League Final)- although I think Spain and Germany have the most elite referees at present.
