Mikel Arteta on the penalty: “It’s very disappointing.”

“I've never seen a decision like this in my career. I asked the boys, and they have never seen anything like it.”

The really sad thing about this is how many Arsenal "fans" there are on social media parroting what Arteta says. The big six can make an incorrect view (or just lie in this case) the defacto correct opinion in the media by shear weight of numbers repeating it on social media.

Also the state of the media is terrible. When he is says he has never seen anything like it why don't they put to him several examples of similar incidents all given as penalties? Why do they allow him to push falsehoods?

His manner of coping with adversity is why I think Arsenal will never win the league with him in charge. He reacts with incredulity and petulance in the media and on the sideline. His players take his lead and behave like him on the pitch whenever a decision goes against them. It’s a victim mentality that makes them fragile.

Oh, and it was a penalty. As others have said, if you take someone with your foot it’s a penalty it is also a penalty if you take someone out with your head. Even if it’s not an intentional headbutt.

It was only a penalty because it was at Villa. But neither really were. Officials are nothing more than lottery and luck these days. Who knows what they’re going to give and why.

Player went for the ball, but got the man. If Arteta has never seen anything like it, then his preparation for this match was pretty shoddy. He only had to watch our most recent game to see Pedro being punished for the same offence. Head, foot, armpit, bawbag, doesn't matter, if you hit an opponent, not the ball, it's a foul.

Thought it was soft at the time and I’m still lot sure. I’d be unhappy if it was given against us.

At the ground I thought it was probably Pedro's shithouse antics that got the call, now watching it on TV, I think it's a clear pen and one of the very few things the ref actually got right today.

Three pricks on MOTD think not.

The MOTD pundits say no - those blowhards have convinced me it’s a pen, you can’t follow through and wipe out a player like that. Think Greer got done for something like that albeit with his leg - but a head doesn’t have magic exemption powers in any laws of football
