Yes, we can’t deny him the chance of a return to Germany and to play in the Champions League if that’s what he wants. At 33 years old, if we can get £5-7m with him having just one year left on his contract, then financially it looks ok for us, but just sad to lose such a great servant without a proper send off.

sorry to come back to a post that was made a while ago now, and i have already mentioned this but i keep thinking about it and i think it bears reiterating. this is what we absolutely CANNOT do if he goes, which now looks likely.

aware that it’s not really what your post says but i cannot stress how badly it would end if we tried to replace groß internally.

trying to replace groß’s output with any other player in our squad is a fool’s errand. we either break our record to replace him, get extremely lucky and find some other bargain player that no one’s heard of, or it’s going to be a very difficult season.

this will be a massive blow and I hope the recruitment team have the equivalent experienced playmaker lined up to fill his boots as there isn’t anyone at the club in his class currently!

It may do but there really isn't an option here. We can't keep a player who doesn’t want to be here who has the chance of playing at home for a massive club and who has been an exemplary servant for the Albion. He's clearly been told we want him to stay and I'm sure a nice new deal is on offer but this is one of those situations that goes beyond armchair FIFA playing analysis and we have to do the classy thing.
