Great build-up playNearly. What a great pass into the area.

But it WAS a genuine attempt to win the ball. I didn’t feel they were suggesting that prevents it from also being a red card. It’s a valid enough observation as it would be a different motivation entirely if the keeper challenged like that and was nowhere near the ball. It draws a distinction between a terrible tackle like that and Schumacher’s outright assault on Battiston in 1982 where there was no attempt to win the ball at all.Unbelievable that the commentary team (is that Matt Upson?) was still talking about the keeper "getting a touch on the ball first", and describing it as a "genuine attempt to win the ball", as if there could be any defense for a head high flying kick.
Yes, but that attempt has to be tempered with regards to the safety of the opponent. This was totally ignored, in that awful challenge. But it WAS a genuine attempt to win the ball. Biggest surprise to me - given the potential severity of the injury and the situation still evolving - is that the BBC chose to show several gruesome replays again at halftime.
Obviously.Yes, but that attempt has to be tempered with regards to the safety of the opponent. This was totally ignored, in that awful challenge.
Yes, so it was utterly irrelevant for them to mention that it was a 'genuine attempt to get the ball', in this instance.Obviously.
What was the Millwall fans’ reaction?Just seen the challenge/assault - absolutely horrendous. The keeper needs a long ban.
Millwall fans reaction as classy as ever. Scum.
He criticised the player and the ref.Personally didn’t mind Parish allowing his emotions out given what was a shocker of a challenge. He’s right in what he said too.
I mean, how could you not?He criticised the player and the ref.
The challenge was reckless. It's not in the Schumacher/ battiston category fromm82 world cup semiI mean, how could you not?![]()
He banged on about it as the answer to 3 different questions, none of which were about the challenge.I mean, how could you not?![]()
I can’t entirely remember the interview now, but wasn’t he asked about Oliver only booking him as a question rather than him bringing it up? Not that it really matters, his player was off in an ambulance and he was pretty upset. I didn’t have a problem with what he said given how bad the challenger was and a player in hospital. The challenge was reckless. It's not in the Schumacher/ battiston category fromm82 world cup semi
The right decision was reached by the ref. We don't know what was said between ref and var but irrespective of how he got there it was the right decision. Nothing to be gained by having a go at half time
